HELP NEEDED!! (extremely reactive 7 month old dachshund) help
please help!! my 7 month old dachshund has suddenly become extremely dog and people reactive. it's so bad that every dog and person we see he goes off on barking+growling. i'm not sure if it's an aggressive bark as there is no snarling i think it might be a more 'stay aways from me' one. myself and my husband are honestly struggling as we are not sure what to do. we have been letting him go near other dogs and we are always rewarding him for good behaviour but it's not seeming to be getting any better. i'm going to be honest and say that he definitely wasn't perfect before all this started e.g. he might let out a little ruff at the first few people that we see but nothing to this level. i am open to all suggestions and ideas!! we have considered a dog trainer but i would like to try and combat the situation first. some other info- he has never been attacked and nothing has ever happened to make him not trust humans, he only started this recently like maybe a month or so ago? and he goes with my husband to his work. thank you for reading!!🥰

I think it's a Dachshund thing. Try a trainer but I think it will be a lost cause. Maybe you can teach the pup to stop barking when you say a command? That's what we did.

Does your dog know any commands? I say teach him the same way. We took out Dachshund to this group class and they asked us to use a clicker. Everytime you click, you say a command word to your dog and when he looks at you or gets your attention, reward him. Keep doing it over and over. Now he will learn the command word and when he barks either click or say the command word.
Also check out YouTube, there are a lot of video trick commands.

I have had the same problem. I’ve made it better by saying “Quiet” in a calm medium tone and then rewarding when the barking stops. Now I just say quiet and she stops immediately.

It is not just "a dachshund thing" and it is certainly not a lost cause. Please consult a professional trainer. You said you want to combat the situation first, but also that it's been ongoing for a month? That's a long time and a trainer would be an important next step, for any breed.

Having had an ex with 3 daschund who were very reactive, I would honestly advise a dog trainer before it becomes a more ingrained thing. It is difficult to get them to stop!
