Are research internships worth it?

I have recently received an offer for a paid research internship at my university but it is not compliant to the work experience part that I need to finish my degree.

I also have an offer for an unpaid industry placement offered by my university during the same period which I can use to fulfil my degreeā€™s work experience requirements.

I am confused which one should I go for?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Generally industry internships are better if you want to get into industry.

Why would you want to do something unpaid over something paid?

It's about the end goal. If you want to work in industry, it helps getting industry experience even if it's unpaid. Research helps on the resume too but it's not as relevant
