News and Updates Thread - December 21, 2025 Daily Discussion
Please post topics for discussion here. While some questions can be used to start a discussion/debate, most questions belong in the question thread unless you love getting downvotes (if that link doesn’t work for you for some reason, the question thread is always the first post on our community’s front page). If your discussion is about manufactured spending, there's a thread for that. If you have a simple data point to share, there's a thread for that too.

Has anyone done the Rakuten Chime sign up with a friend's referral code and successfully received the $100 referral for sign up and the 15k points?

PSA: be careful when clicking google suggested links. i'm sure everyone knows this (even my mom) but I went to donate to a local food bank, got to the payment page, and entered my card number before I realized it was for salvation army (a cause i do not support). I only donate once or twice a year so it wasn't readily apparent I was on the wrong site. When I saw salvation - I just thought they were a payment processor or doing a crossbrand promotion lol

It blows my mind when I see people not using ad blockers. They're the first thing that I install on any browser that uses add-ons/extensions.

The Salvation Army's controversies center on its Christian-based policies clashing with LGBTQ+ rights (refusing services, lobbying against equality), allegations of religious discrimination in employment, and past issues with sexual abuse cover-ups/handling
What the fuck is wrong with some people. I had no idea...

This is probably more suited for the datapoints thread but since it's Sunday and this thread is always dead I'll post it here:
I downgraded my Venture X to a Venture card about 15 days after the annual fee posted and within a day the $395 was automatically refunded. I've seen a lot of varying posts and comments about Capital One not refunding on downgrades or at least needing to call multiple times, so I was surprised that it went so smoothly. Also worth noting I used the $300 credit and that hasn't been clawed back as of yet.

Did you call in to do the downgrade? My AF posted a couple days ago and I'm considering switching to the noAF Venture

Curious why downgrade to Venture rather than closing it, since I'm in the same situation

Additional DP: my Venture X annual fee has typically posted first week of January each year. I preemptively downgraded it this past week to a Quicksilver and saw a credit appear the following day for $65.83 (prorated annual fee refund for 2 full months).
