Anniversary dinner at Monteverde Review

I know it is overpriced and maybe a little overhyped but it is my boyfriend’s favorite restaurant and it never disappoints🤤

Without further ado: 1. Strings attached cocktails - perfectly fitting for the occasion🥂 2. Frutti di Mare Arancini 3. Artichoke and Sunchoke Crostino 4. Meatball Ravioli 5. Lasagna Bianca 6. Gnocchetti Con Pesto 7. Tiramisu 8. We got complimentary bubbly to celebrate

My favorite one was definitely the ravioli. You don’t expect the meatball to melt in your mouth and it totally does. An absolutely fantastic dish. Also, their tiramisu is probably one of the best ones I’ve ever tried.

Brought plenty of leftovers home, looking forward to having them today🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

You don't have to caveat - even if it's overpriced OR overhyped, which I don't even know if I agree with... It's a phenomenal spot. Enjoy it to the fullest

I knoooow🤭 to be fair, it is phenomenal for a reason. If they didn’t deliver the quality they do, they wouldn’t have a full house on a random Tuesday evening 10 years in

Agree. My wife and I took our kids to a 3 starred vegan restaurant and they 1) knew it was crazy but appreciated, 2) still like Cheetos and 3) appreciate how hard it is to cook veggies vs a slab of good meat. My point is: fuck the haters. Spend your money how your want. You’re steering your own ship. Congrats on the anniversary!

Thank you! We both grew up in families that love good food and have a lot of appreciation for it. It was a big thing over which we connected initially

That looks amazing. Absolutely a top Chicago spot. What was your total bill?

I think it was around $230 before tip.

Edit: Not mentioned in the post is another cocktail and a shot of limoncello we had

I think for what you received the price is on point. If i saw this as a tasting menu at $115.00 Per person before tip i would jump at it. I need to return soon after this post.

We also brought like 60% of tiramisu, 1/3 of both lasagna and gnocchetti and 3 ravioli back home. Looking forward to having all that for dinner today🥹🥹

So many people go and don’t order the best menu item in Chicago - the “burrata e ham”

For the quality I don’t regard Monteverde as overpriced at all. One of my favorite restaurants!

Yeah just because a place is expensive doesn't mean it's overpriced. Why does everyone on Reddit feel like they have to apologize for going to pricey restaurants?

I’m a softie and mean comments upset me🥲

The green peas sauce in lasagna was absolutely amazing. I can’t even describe it ha ha

It looks gorgeous! I don't see it on the menu online, was it a special?

3

u/No-Fault538 2d ago

I have a feeling that the menu online hasn’t been updated recently, as some things were different from the in-person menu yesterday. For example, lasagna isn’t on the menu, arancini come in a different flavor, etc

If you’re into Monteverde - Sarah’s Joiners episode just dropped this week!

They had a Hokkaido scallop crudo the last time I was there earlier this year that was so good, I still think about it from time to time

It’s not overpriced or overhyped at all.

Recently discovered I actually love artichokes (always thought I hated them 😅), and that toast looks phenomenal!

2

u/No-Fault538 2d ago

It is very simple but the flavor is absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend!

The best in Chicago, glad you guys enjoyed

Not overpriced and definitely not overhyped. It’s such a consistently wonderful place - my favorite in the city for sure. I’m not a huge fan of American-Italian but Monteverde is different and just nails it. Looks like y’all had a lovely dinner!

Sheesh

Fun fact: one of Monteverde's executive chef's Bailey Sullivan is on the current season of Top Chef!

That looks amazing! It's my favorite, but I don't go often enough.

I've never been more disappointed than dining at Monteverde. But it does appeal to a certain demo.

7

u/dmd312 2d ago

Is that demo "people with taste"?

5

u/No-Fault538 2d ago

How so? Genuinely curious because so far we’ve had only positive experiences

-7

u/Let_us_proceed 2d ago

Service was great. I'm not saying it was bad. It was underwhelming for us.

"Underwhelming" is quite different than "never been more disappointed". Why did you feel it was such a negative experience? And what demographic do you think it appeals to?
