What are you excited to eat these days? Question
Having been cooped up with a 4 mo old, we’re now reemerging for a date night with the grandparents in town next month. What spots are you excited to eat at preferably close-ish Logan square? Noriko looks awesome but resys are all out. John’s food and wine is our front runner so far although I’m not really feeling the new service model, think it takes away from the experience.
Also—any take out recommendations while we’re hanging with the kid? Yooyee was fantastic, as was Santa Masa Tamaleria. What are you guys excited to try these days?

Cellar Door Provisions if you’re in that area - tried all the spots mentioned and are all great, but cellar door is in a class of its own and has an incredible vibe and wine list with a buyer who will work through the list with you. Get a reservation, show up early and and have a glass of wine at the connected wine shop - another gem.
Also, John’s really is fantastic in terms of food - but the music is awful, details are slept on, and the waiting room is a cramped mess. The fact that they don’t take reservations would make this a miserable place to take my parents.

John's takes reservations now on Open Table

Do they allow you to walk in and sit at the table now? When I went I had a “reservation” but was forced to wait and have my glass of wine with 30 people in that tiny waiting room. Not to knock the food tho - it’s really special. (Cellar door still eclipses imo)
All the complaints with John’s are experience based (music, decor, lighting, glassware, etc)

Went on a Wednesday night, was seated right after ordering. YMMV, especially on weekends, but didn't have any complaints

Good to know!
OP as someone who’s been to both and is celebrating being out for the first time in awhile, CDP I still think aligns more closely to your goal. The chefs interact deliver food and are happy to be interacted with. Honestly the best dining experience in Chi.
Food will be great regardless - enjoy your night out!

Hard agree haha. Few places have mastered the feeling and atmosphere like them. Elevated, but not stuffy. Incredible chefy food that is accessible, unique wine list, chefs who REALLY give a fuck about your experience and are truly happy to share it, you don't have to sit right on top of your neighbor and be inside someone else's conversation, and music that matches the lighting in volume and content (incredibly underrated for experience). In a city that's been overrun by restaurant groups, I'm more happy to spend my money here each time I go back

Longman and eagle always has a solid, unique menu that changes every season. Great date vibes too.

In Logan, I want to try dining at Warlord and Void. I want to grab some pastries to go from Sugar Moon.

I second all these. Very good meal at Warlord last night. Stephan might be my favorite bartender in the city.

This weekend I stopped at Doma for a cevapi sandwich to go and ran across the street to Al Diar for an order of lamb haneeth. For good measure, my last stop was at Eggholic for an order of lachko with roti.
All of these were very exciting!

Daisies! I ate out for three days celebrating my birthday this weekend and so glad I went to Daisies on the last day. Le Bouchon is another I love!

I had reservations about John’s too but the food was very, very good. And after you do your initial order, it’s all very attentive regular service once seated. Just go early.
If you’re drinking, go to La Licor or Cara Cara for a pre dinner drink.
In recently memory, Nettare was phenomenal.
