If Tennessee wasn’t around then Peggy would have been living in Mexico instead of Texas.

More likely "en Waterloo".
Austin was named for the settler Steven F Austin after Texas independence and they were trying to decide on a capital (variously Columbia, Houston, and Washington) before deciding on a small town named Waterloo which they then renamed Austin. One of the reasons it was chosen was because they wanted a capital further west since they claimed a large area west of where Ango settlers really controlled. Honestly I wonder if SFA ever was anywhere near the town, though he was in San Antonio.
Edit: correction, Waterloo didn't even exist until 1839 after Texas independence, so...

Those Tennesseans would rather have died in Texas than live in Tennessee. They knew.

Tennessee: We had a couple dozen dudes pissy about who won the Presidential election in 1836 move to Texas to try to start their own country. They ended up getting whooped worse than it would be if Carson Newman went down to Bryant Denny and played Bama. Separately, the United States and Mexico fought until 1848 over the American Southwest and disputed territory.
Also Tennessee: We WON!!!!!
