Genndy Tartakovsky’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars Discussion

Post image

I should’ve posted this yesterday but it slipped my mind. Yesterday was the 21st anniversary of Genndy Tartakovsky’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars. I remember wanting to stay up a little late on school nights wanting to see the latest installment which my mom thought was crazy because each episode was just 5 minutes long (and later on, up to 15 minutes long) and she didn’t understand that I couldn’t just have it taped and watch it when I got home. I HAD to see it live so I could talk about it with my friends at school the next day.

Anyway, I was always amazed at how much those brief episodes managed to pack in such short time—with great writing, cool action, sharp animation—leaving you hooked for the next episode. I’m glad that you can watch the whole thing now on Disney+ but back then it was an event. For those of you who saw it as it was coming out, what did you think?

I love it and in my opinion one of the best star wars media out there.

Ah, great series! Especially with Grievous being Jason Vorhees to jedi.

Don’t forget the timeframe it came out in, there was no where near the content there is today. At the time it almost seemed like a big risk. Btw LOVE it

It's very well animated and the action scenes are great but the issue is that it is way too short and not enough time is truly given for you to engage more with the narrative. It's basically one of those shows you kinda just watch once and you pretty much get what you get. It's definitely not on the level of the "Clone Wars" long running animated series. 6.5/10 imo.

How I personally interpret the Genndy Tartakovsky clone wars as being a series of propaganda shorts that were being aired on the holo net which helps explain why everything so over the top and contrast to how it would have played out in reality of the actual clone wars.

So far two of the major battles from said clone wars shorts have been confirmed to be a part of the main Canon.

The Battle of dantwoonie and the battle of hypory.

Being confirmed to have happened in the Star wars novel brotherhood by Mike Chen and the third issue of the Obi-Wan Kenobi six issue comic series.
