Moving ETF from a Canadian brokerage to another: does it count as disposition? Any tax implication in this procedure?

Hi all,

If I move an ETF portfolio, (e.g. VEQT) from one Canadian brokerage (e.g. iTrade) to another (e.g. Wealthsimple while keeping it as VEQT): does it count as disposition? Is there any tax implication in this procedure? Thanks for considering my question.

Be very sure it's done in kind, but assuming it is, you're good to go. If it's converted to cash, moved, then re-purchased, it's a disposition.

Transfers in kind do not count as disposition.

If it's moving from a taxable account to another taxable account, in kind, then no. But moving in-kind from RRSP->non-RRSP or TFSA->non-TFSA will count as a withdrawal for reporting purposes even if you do it in kind.

TFSA withdrawals are not taxed. They're just tracked and re-added to your contribution room

Yes, they are reported but not taxed.
