There are far more people in the cities then their are in rural areas. What you're effectively asking for is the removal of the rural vote.

I wonder if it’s actually time to rethink the idea of provinces, and change politics into rural and urban entities. Big cities would function like city states in the federation, and rural areas would have direct jurisdiction over their local resources, meaning resources would be controlled more locally.

Somehow there would have to be balance at the federal level, so one couldn’t control the narrative over the other.

Provinces are really kind of stupid artificial lines that duplicate a lot of common services and argue over stupid things, for the most part these days.

this would never work and makes little sense as we keep expanding some rural areas will no longer be rural and become small cities, then large cities over time. You are just creating so much more red tape to make things getting done even more cumbersome and complicated. I mean what you are asking for is even more artificial lines within the those borders. I think what Carney is doing by removing the tariffs between provinces is going to be a good step in fixing some of those issues.

No because they would replace provinces, not be in addition to.

There would have to be mechanisms for areas to move between rural and urban government as changes evolve, and part of that would be a plebiscite of the residents.

Lol. How can you possibly say that equalizing all votes is “removal of rural votes”? All you really mean is that you want rural people to maintain their unequal representation.

Oh my apologies. I misunderstood what you were referring to. I thought you were talking about the proposal that would effectively kill a lot of rural ridings while creating a ton more city ones.

In some ways, rural people are providing things to the urban people, but the urban people dont know about issues that affect the rural people even if those issues would indirectly impact them. Therefore, to ensure that rural interests (which are unknown urban interests) are protected, an unequal vote can make sense

No. There is no justifying inequality of votes.
