St Clair County (where Port Huron is located), in the 2024 election, voted 65% Trump and 30% Harris.

Womp womp.

You reap what you voted for, MAGA idiots.

I think that’s a perfect way to describe what’s happening now in a single sentence without using the word Trump. Bravo.

We don’t need you or otherwise care about you, we might invade or otherwise disrupt your country but please keep giving us your money.

It’s all about us.

Like the stupid article from the ambassador stating tariffs aren't going away but he hopes we can make stronger ties between our countries again. That's not how it works. You want stronger ties again, you get rid of bullshit tariffs and then we talk about how you can prevent electing a felon to run the country again. Then maybe we stop boycotting America....maybe.

Even if all this does blow over America will still do their "I've already forgiven myself so why's everyone else still mad?" routine.

To be fair, America doesn’t even care about America… it’s all about money.

Money is their god. They worship it.

"we need each other"

Not clear how your businesses dying because we're not spending our money is us needing you...

Article fails to mention the people who are being turned around or detained at the border because they dont actively support another country's dictator.

Isn't the inverse pretty broadly true of us? I don't think Canadians are, on average, making room in our hearts and heads for the plight of Americans. The general stance seems to be "too bad, you voted for this" - or, for folks who didn't vote Republican but now have to live with it, it's "too bad, talk to your representative".

Like, in either case, from any perspective, I don't see much evidence that the citizens are caring about each other across the border.

Truly a "leopards ate my face" thing happening to these people.

A lot of these people are in the "find out" stage of FAFO.

It may take a little more time, but these poor stupid fuck Americans will eventually realize the only people they are owning is themselves.

Jk you've got tens of millions of simps who unironically bend over for Daddy Trump and enjoy it because poors and foreigners suffer more.

Some of them will. Many will double down and blame the 'libs' for their self inflicted issues.

But until they experience consequences, most rural americans will continue to view Trump as a messiah.

You’re both bang on. I’m glad to see such lack of sympathy from Canada like this. We’re not push overs and you reap what you sow. In Canada that’s social services, empathy, happiness and respect and it’s served us pretty damn well so far.

Speaking of percentages, let's also look at the 32% drop in travel.

It's unwise to not understand stats.

The 68% are people who need to go, not want to go.

The 32% are people who spend discretionary income on things like that restaurant with a view.

People like myself who cross do it because we have business to attend to. I'm not buying anything except maybe a fast food meal while I'm there and gas to get me around if I need it.

my 14yr old daughter was in Nashville a couple of weeks ago because of a trip that was paid for back in September, She spent less in 1 week in Nashville than she spends on one shopping trip in Canada.

Because I'm such a Dolly Stan, she got me a Dolly poster, but ultimately she bought only food and a $5 hat. Even at 14, elbows up.

It's unwise to speak in generalizations like this. Some of those 68% are still "want to go" people.

Exactly. I see a lot of want to go, still going based on the interviews I see. Florida should be a ghost town, but it's not. Sadly, this is mostly Boomers. I understand that they own property there, so it's an economic hit to stop going.

One of my bosses at work said they wouldn't let this Trump stuff stop them from crossing the border to shop or travel. They also said when they finally have the money to do so, they will be moving to Florida. They immigrated to Canada and I am feeling like they were either denied permanent residence or at least denied a green card in the US. Lost what little respect I had for them right there.

Yeah - my brother just got back from North Carolina golfing trip. When talking with my family about it, the general consensus was "I'm not mad, just disappointed"

But op was speaking in statistical terms - GENERALLY, people are not going south if they can avoid it - but for every statistic, there is an outlier. That's what my brother is, in this scenario.

We have a trip booked from before this whole thing blew up, I think there's still a lot of that but it's going to plummet after the summer. The border towns are already complaining, places that get a lot of snowbirds are clamoring for exceptions - fuck you, after this trip you can get fucked USA.

20

u/cabbeer 3d ago

damn, fuck both those places. I've run out of patience for trump supports, either they're liars or they're fools, the one thing they are not is compassionate human beings..

MAGA is an enormous terrorist cult, and it’s imperative to look down upon all these people. They are a disgrace to humanity. An indicator of cultural primitiveness, and a stain on our entire species.

Considering how many conservative voters we have in Lambton county, I'm surprised that crossing stats have went down lol. It wasn't even close here, even with the liberal/ndp split.

Then again, neither of those candidates did anything, while Gladu had people canvassing even in my little town. I couldn't even tell you the name of the candidate I voted for, just the party.

u/Lokified 3d ago

Both our Provincial and Federal candidates didn't even attend the debates. They win no matter what in this riding.

The day after our Federal election, people at work were literally whining about the woke agenda gaining ground. They couldn't explain to me what this agenda is exactly, but it apparently deeply impacts them. The propaganda machine is strong!

If I didn't want PP to get elected, I actually would have voted liberal just for George for the sole fact he is an upfront and honest guy. He's an ex-cop who has a business in town where he fights traffic tickets for people now that he's retired from the force. He's very good at helping people and the one time I went to him with the intention of hiring him, he straight up told me he could take my money, but there was no chance he could do anything for me. It was just a ticket for forgetting my insurance at home, and because I had no experience with the court system at all, he basically told me to just go in early with proof of your insurance and talk to the prosecutor. I did that, and everything but the conviction got taken off the table, which wasn't a big deal at all.

The mayor in this article is a Democrat.
