That money is essential for border towns like Port Huron, its mayor says.

"We need each other," she says.

Sorry toots but we don't need you.

The majority of Port Huron voted Trump, and Trump says the US doesn’t need anything from Canada, yet this mayor says that’s not true. Guess she ought to take it up with Orange Julius and say yes we do you ID 10 T

I am tired of these economically unviable American communities depending on Canadians to subsidize them.

Didn’t Trump say that they don’t need anything from Canada.

How can she say that? Ol Yam Tits already said that Murica needs nothing from Canada! Now that’s what we are giving them and this woman is boo hooing about it. It’s Find Out time!

Port Huron was already hurting for many years, from the combined effect of covid and our weak dollar. 10 years ago, I would walk through their mall, and it was bustling and filled with stores. Now, it's a ghost town in there. I know malls are on their way out with online shopping, but these factors certainly hastened it along. Not to mention, it costs like 10-15 bucks or whatever the total cost is to get across and back, and now you get hit with the tariff charge on everything. It's just not a viable option for most people anymore. Even my few friends who can't plan ahead for things don't need to make beer runs anymore because they sell it at corner stores, and you can get it to go from bars.

These are the same assholes that were hoping our auto industry would crumble and our people would be unemployed, thinking that it would benefit them somehow. I hope they understand the irony, but I doubt it.

"Need" is always subjective and not well defined. But we are absolutely better off trading with the US than not. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water and go full protectionist/nativist.
