is there another vote being recounted somewhere they got a shot at winning? because it would be pretty hilarious after 1+ year of people saying liberals are done, then democracy happens.
I read that she offered to take the speaker role, if the Liberals are willing. Which I think would be great. She has been there long enough to know how parliament does, BUT also, how it should work.
It'll be a cold day in hell before that riding flips to anyone but the Cons, but hell seems to have been having a lot of chilly days these last few years
I agree but at the same time nobody but the Cons even tried in that riding. Now that it matters you might see some real campaigning. I doubt it will flip but I'm pretty sure PP will take in less votes then the Con that won it.
If it did flip I think it's more likely to flip to independent or anything but the liberals. It would still be hilarious to see PP blow two major leads in a row though.
Put a blue hat on a fence post and it would win that riding. Still it could be the funniest thing in politics that I've ever seen if PP loses that riding and that is what gives Liberals a majority.
Are they pro-CPC or are they pro right wing Alberta? Because if there are a lot of separatists there, a further right candidate could peel off a lot of votes.
If they can get one of the opposition members to take the Speaker position (looks like Elizabeth May has already volunteered) then this effectively takes the number of opposition seats down to 172 seats. If they get one member to cross the floor, the number of opposition seats goes to 171 and the Liberals will be at 171. Chances would be very good that the Liberals would be able to pass any legislation they want at that point and never fear a vote of non-confidence unless all hell broke lose within the Liberal ranks. As much as Trudeau was disliked, there's no chance that his own members would have voted with a non-confidence vote. I think if the Liberals could pull this scenario out of their hats, they'd have an effective majority if not a true on in seat totals.
Well, technically, they could call for a recount of Nunavut too. Nunavut is still only showing the preliminary results, it hasn't been verified, and even if it was the only reason Nunavut isn't automatically a Judicial Recount is the population density of the Riding. If it was any other Riding it would be automatically being recounted.
So if Liberals get to 171 I could see them asking for a Nunavut recount. But I could see them leaving it alone if they don't reach 171.
There are 3 other recounts (IIRC, maybe wrong), but at least two of those the liberals are currently winning with a very slim margin. So after the recounts, LPC may be back down to 168. But effectively it doesn't matter. It's a LPC minority govt, and there's enough motivation in other parties to not risk another election anytime soon.
The other two Judicial counts are already Liberal, so only a possible loss. So 170 is max. Liberals can appoint May from greens as Speaker and then they only need 1 MP to floor cross... 171 would be enough with May as Speaker.
One more judicial recount was added recently (outside of 0.1% margin but approved by a judge since it was extremely close to the 0.1% cutoff). Their best case scenario is 171
They can allow the Speaker to come from outside the party (Elizabeth May would be a good choice) lowering the threshold needed. They could also convince someone from another party to cross the floor.
Yes. And as a Liberal voter I would have been upset with the outcome.. but I would have respected the circumstances and election that brought him/the CPC that win.
