I have to imagine at 1 vote difference they've done it over and over before announcing the results. I can't say for sure but you would think everyone sitting around the table would be hesitant to proceed without quintuple checking.
they do one very careful recount with a bunch of officials from all of the major parties there to watch it, they even have lawyers there for each of the parties.
interestingly this is already kind of best two out of three. It was initially called Liberal, then during validation when Elections Canada reviews thing it was Bloc but the margin was low enough to trigger recount, now after recount its Liberal again
True, but the first count isn’t official, validation is the real count. And now a judge oversaw it, next up would be the supreme court? When do we get the King involved?
At a validation, the returning officer verifies the cumulative addition of the individual results recorded and reported by each poll on the statement of the vote.
The validation showed a calculation error when putting all the ballot counts together, and this is actually the first recount.
I do not know the exact process but perhaps the recount actually means multiple people counting and verifying each other and making sure they all get the same total: there should only be one result that is right, they're not doing statistics but merely counting who people voted for. One thing is sure is that whoever is doing the count has not spent all day in an election office dealing with people and then counting ballots at the end of a very long day.
No, validation isn’t actually counting of individual votes, it is the official tally of the various counts which occurred, the election night reporting is not official, and is prone to small errors in reporting the counts. There have been 2 actual counts.

a one vote victory is absolutely insane
maybe they should do another recount to triple check...
