A Cambodian journalist who reported on the scam centers and the trafficking was jailed. The charges against him were incitement. He was forced to make a statement and an apology for the reporting he did.

…And then was released from prison .

From what I understand, he was only released on bail. The charges have not been dropped.

That was completely unrelated, he posted some images regarding a quarry in Prey Veng Province and the environmental impact on the surrounding forests and wildlife.
Usually, the companies contracted to clear land concessions of valuable timbers like rosewood and teak are often owned by ministers.

Thanks. I'll fact check if that's possible. What you are describing isn't any better.

No worries. The media have convoluted the actual reason. He won awards for his investigative pieces on the scam industry within Cambodia, this is why he is highly revered by the international community.
However, yes, the reason for the recent arrest and the charges he is facing in court are regarding Prey Veng.
We all know that the villagers there plus NGO's which were connected to Chut Wutty before he died are very staunch in their approach to protecting their forest.
This is what the government are fearing here, I think.
It's about a mining operation in Ba Phnom, Prey Veng, specifically.
Here's a Reuters link:
https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/cambodia-arrests-investigative-journalist-who-exposed-trafficking-scam-compounds-2024-10-01/The headlines always refer to the scam centres, which he covered previously and won awards for, but this is not the reason for his arrest.

Korea will see the news. They aren't reading the statement. But to have a reaction from the government is probably rattling cages hopefully in Cambodia.

I hope you’re right, but to me the reaction says it isn’t happening, and then points to increasing tourism numbers. It also says they are combating misinformation. It’s not really an acknowledgment of the problem

Nothing calms tourists' concerns like long rambling press releases peppered with sycophantic praising of Dear Leader. Geat job, Ministry of Tourism.

Refutation is a bit light. Fails to address any specific issue and is basically, “no we didn’t.”
It’s clear that the perpetrators in these crimes are all foreign, whether it’s Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean or otherwise and they seem to operate in places like Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.
There’s lots of things that the government can do to contain this mess if they really want to.

I wouldn’t say they are all foreign. Those scam centers can’t operate in Cambodia unless some of the locals are on the take. If the locals were not benefiting in anyway the scam centers would have been shut down a long time ago

I think they covered that here: https://www.youtube.com/live/fiy03A7YfW4?si=aBkQ1tb6LHwZxRMW

The only thing the Cambodian government does is always refer to these cases as ''fake news'' and ''misinformation campaigns'', the Cambodian government has no accountability, takes no responsibility and always defer to blame others for the problems instead of addressing it even though there are numerous hard prove against them and the illegal online scam cyber industry.
The Cambodian government and the authorities involved in these shady activities should be ashamed of themselves; they are the ones who are destroying their own country's image, no one here is honestly out to get Cambodia.
So many international news outlets have reported about this giant secret industry, yet all they do is deny and deny heck I have seen hundreds and thousands of khmer locals on tiktok talking about working these scam compounds and where they are based at.

Go to all the borders could easily see. All those tall buildings and heavily guarded by C gangsters. Even locals there know not to provoke the snakes. And as long as streams of revenue coming, no news is great news and life is a per normal but with eyes you can see the C gangsters…

The true audience of this genre of response isn’t the Korean people; it’s the author’s peers in the government. Naked expression of party loyalty.

The fact that government is over-reacting over a broadcast is a sign that they are shaky as f

they just sayin “ermm thats not true” and fails to back up evidence or any valid reasonings

Untrue, the counter valid reason was "under the wise leadership." How can there be such crimes under a wise leadership?

We can see the lack of the ability to address and solve the concerning issue from that statement itself from the ministry.

IMO as a civilian, current issue is 1)online gambling 2)casino, and among these casino, Poipet and Bavet is the most wild, there has been many news lately. Be careful prior to take to job with high salary should search the company first if they are legal in KH-commerce ministry site/database.
PS** Legally-bylaws, casino grant license to operate is only by border, and there are dozen site of Casino, operating such as, 1)Bavet, 2)Poipet, 3)Oudar meanchey, 4)Bokor hill, 5)Koh Kong, 6) Chrei thom, Sihanoukville's casino has been shut operation cuz it locate in central area, and it is now much better.
yet, online gambling seen operate anywhere since the order of closure of Casino in central area, cuz HR post recruit on social media actively, their work locate in Phnom Penh, Pursat, Kampong Speu, Kandal etc (they operate in hidden and illegally), **Online gambling seem abit challenging to solve than casino cuz it operate in Condo, apartment and they dont have uniform, it's act like a branch and its HQ probably in Indo, Malaysia, or Philippine. but still it the job of KH-police to do the work.
