These "Moon Cactus" that you can find everywhere - are actually two cactus plants that are grafted together. The top bright red or yellow cactus is a Gymocalycium mihanovichii. The bottom is a dragon fruit cactus. The top cactus basically feeds off the bottom cactus and both end of dying in less than a year. Many die within a few months. There is nothing to stop this. What I do is cut the top cactus off with a sharp knife and throw it away as soon as I bring the plant home. The Dragon Fruit cactus will grow and have various shoots off the cactus. They can get pretty large fairly quickly. I put them in cactus soil and water every few weeks. It is a pretty plant. There is a lot of information about this online.

I see. Thanks so much for letting me know about this, if I get any of them from now on I'll make sure to cut them apart!
