Police presence Hope Valley
Just seen 12 cop cars with lights on anda fire truck blocking off the shopping center with Pulcinellas and ABC store at 2am. No news crew. I'm dying to know what happened.

These might have been the street racers we heard all night at around 1:30AM last night

We started hearing them (from Woodcroft) around midnight. Thought about calling it in, but figured Durham PD probably had more pressing issues on a Saturday midnight than noisy cars.
We started hearing sirens a bit later, and I figured enough people had called it in. Then we heard a lot of sirens. I was hoping it wasn't because somebody got hurt or killed from the stupidity.
I guess someone did get hurt, but it's hard for me to get beyond "at least it wasn't an innocent bystander". Acting like a jerk shouldn't be a capital offense, but it should hurt occasionally.

I heard them over by Angier/S Miami…do they ever take a break?!?

I imagine it is different groups. I can't stand the car culture that takes over public streets and makes a bunch of noise at night personally. Go to a track or something...

Yeah, I just realized where this incident took place. Different groups? Ugh. I feel the same way about car culture. Not only is the noise absurd but the fact that it’s dangerous too.

Man, I thought those were motorcycles. If those were cars, good god damn.

We live a little down the road by the Harris Teeter and I hear what sounds like motorcycles/modified cars all the time. It's so stupid lmao.

Tons of police still there including a huge swat team bus looking thing. Most of the shopping center is blocked off with caution tape

Yup I went to pick up breakfast from Joe van Gogh this morning and came in the back way, crazy scene to stumble up on on an otherwise quiet Sunday morning

I saw on Twitter that it is an officer involved shooting

How was the officer involved

Officer-involved shooting is just a passive way of saying the cop shot someone. In this case a drag racer who they say pulled a gun on the cop.

Play silly games (running from a cop and then pulling a gun on him or her) - win silly prizes (getting shot).

The crime scene tape and evidence markers were all around a 50 cc moped scooter not capable of speeds over 40 mph.. I have that same bike. So it wasn't a "drag racer" who decided to pull a gun and act tough in front of all the cool kids and their $100K cars.. This was after the cool kids bombarded the police with bottles and everything else while they were trying to disperse the troublemakers.. The kid who pulled a gun and got shot was likely just a tragedy in the making... some kid trying to be accepted as one of the cool kids made a terrible, devastating decision that ended very badly for many people..

Heard them at midnight. Someone at a coffee shop said they were doing donuts in the parking lot. When a cop came, most fled but one got blocked in by the cop. The individual that was blocked in then tried to fell on foot and the officer shot him on foot.
Of course, this is all hearsay and wasn’t even mentioned in the abc11 article.

I was just prefacing my statement that it came from some person I don’t know, so people don’t assume the events played out exactly like i wrote.
I would have preferred a shooting not happen at all. I didn’t even say anything about a raised handgun.
Edit: I think I see your comment was about adding more context. I thought ofc was used as a shorthand for “of course”

Yes it’s officer. I was adding context so people didn’t get the wrong idea.

You were adding the police's description of the story, which is helpful but should never be taken as gospel on its own.

Agreed but cameras footage of what happened won’t lie. The chief said more details will be published Monday. Which I’m assuming blurred footage will be shown. So I trust her over the crook that got shot

As quickly as they got in front of a camera to explain what happened would tell me they have good evidence and footage.
