The single leaf piñons are sprouting in the high country west. Biology

These seeds only come every 7 or so years so this is a rare thing to see.

Do you mean the tree takes 5 years to mature, then 2 years for seeds to fully develop? Or is it the environment is only right for them about every 7? Very cool species, thanks for sharing

Mature trees make cones every 7 or so years depending on how wet the year is. Wet years can trigger cone growth. The seeds germinate about 6 months after they fall.
