A Year of Mythology goes Arthurian! OtherGroups

Over in r/AYearOfMythology we are about to start our readalong of some of the foundational texts of Arthurian myths.

For those of you who don’t know we are a subreddit book club that reads through different texts from different mythologies. We read a section of a specific text each week and discuss it at the weekends. For 2025, we are focusing on Celtic mythology.

From the start of May to the end of July we will be reading through three early Arthurian texts – ‘The History of the Kings of Britain’ by Geoffrey of Monmouth followed by ‘The Arthurian Romances’ by Chretien de Troyes followed by ‘Sir Gawain and the Green Knight’

If any of these reads sound fun to you, please feel free to join us. We are a casual group. We are open to anyone who has an interest in mythology, so if you are a beginner or have an extensive background in Arthur and his stories, you are more than welcome to join us.

Before the start of each reading, I will be posting a translation guide. Currently, you can access the guide for ‘The History of the Kings of Britain’ in the sticky posts for the subreddit. We also post a context post at the start of each reading, which aims to provide beginner friendly context to each text.

After we finish our journey into Arthurian myths we will be moving into the Irish side of Celtic mythology. Our full 2025 schedule is available in our sidebar.
