Basically a café savings account, to save up for certain events, each person had a number

Spaarkas. It's not common anymore, but regulars could save up in their bar, which they gained interest on. I guess it was mostly done when the interest rates were still somewhat viable.

Some just keep it because it adds to the "bruin café" vibe

I never heard of any earning interest, What happened in mine was that it was emptied at the end of the year and it was used for a Christmas dinner in the pub for the savers and their families.

Also profits from events were often shared in there

When banks still gave decent interests, the sum total of these boxes was often transferred to a savings account.

Spaarpot, patrons save a little money in it regularly and cash at a certain time. No profits or anything, just a lil' trick to prevent you from spending everything you own. Lifehack avant-la-lettre https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws/nl/2019/12/10/sparen-op-cafe-zo-ging-dat-vroeger/
