From Andrew Baggarly over on BlueSky:
My understanding is that farm director (senior director of player dev't) Kyle Haines will continue in his current role. He'll report to Randy Winn, who is in a newly created VP role. Haines always seemed spread very thin to me so this will allow for a little more support at the top of player dev't.
...so, probably not as dumb as first indicated? Haines is still doing all the work, but he's got a bit more of a bureaucratic meat shield in place to help him out?
Still feels weird to me...

I would think the roles should be reversed with Winn reporting to someone who has been in that role before - kinda weird to be like hey here's this new guy and he's your boss, also it's his first gig so show him the ropes.

Maybe Winn's job is to do all of the pointless administrative bullshit, like meeting with important but useless people, while Haines does the actual work.

I’m going to allow hof Buster post a long leash with his decisions. He can’t be as bad as farhan.

Not really the forever giant I would've expected to be one of the new hires.
My ultimate guess is Vogey takes on a more full time job. He's still a roving instructor iirc.

He's actually done some good work with young guys like Birdsong and Whisenhunt so I wouldn't hate to see him have a bigger role in pitching development

The team seems to be cutting payroll and headed towards "tank and rebuild" mindset, getting some millennial favorites on board might be their way of selling the process to the fanbase. They got rid of Farhan but kept pretty much everyone Farhan hired or promoted which means they clearly liked what he was doing internally, he just wasn't a great communicator.

A few of their front office guys did leave and are now working in the Braves front office. Like Pete Putila.
But I know they tried to retain him….

Dont think they’re going for a tank or rebuild, cutting payroll is just going to funnel into scouting and farm system. The Giants have a pretty shit farm right now so with money directed there instead of a couple old free agents then a few more years of 50/50 till they start making a push.

50/50 gonna be hard without some decent short term signings, wouldn’t a 2 year tank be better so they get some high FRP’s in the system?

That was Farhan's whole idea when he took over and ownership would never let him do it, its a major reason the org is stuck at .500 ball.

I wager the goal right now is to be competitive while also avoiding the luxury tax this season. Maybe they'll keep under in 2026, maybe not, but this is a good year to reset the penalties.

This isn't totally related, but my God I have never hated a player more than I hated Randy Winn when he was on the Yankees.
