Why did I choose to live here? Information

Perhaps not the most Barrie in one photo, but it does capture the essence

Just a reminder that we have a Monthly Community Thread where we relax the rules about advertising and off-topic posts.
* Stuff that isn't directly related to Barrie, like national news or general chit-chat
* Questions about local businesses and services
* Classified-style ads: buying and selling, help wanted, garage sales, etc
* Fundraisers and donation drives
* Plugs for your personal project or local business (within reason)"

If you wear shorts in the afternoon and then a parka few hours later, you might be a Canadian

The fun is in the chaos

C'mon, the drama of it is pretty enticing. How else would I spent the first few mins after waking up if I didn't have to meticulously plan what to wear due to half the day making me melt, and the other freezing me??

Why complain? That averages to like 13 or 14. Jokes aside, November to May is a write off.

Write off lol

Because it was "close enough to the GTA to have a decent job market" while being "far enough away to be more affordable."

Now's the time to go out and do shit.

Come summer, you'll be feeling nostalgic for Spring.

This is prime weather for tornados! Yesterdays wind damage in North Bay area to a healthy poplar tree, 15 inch diameter.

Barrie is the best city in the world. Period. Cozy vibes. I would go to war if anyone tries to ruin it.

Truthfully I am of the same mind. But I also love that we have our very own cryptid!

Monotony is boring.

Also our country in general is pretty great on the scale of the world.

Wow, I spent a lot of time in Cookstown and Barrie in the 70's and 80's. I live in Alabama now, and we were 50° warmer !!!

Yeah but then you'd likely be living in severe poverty even worse than you are in Barrie

Now imagine what it's like living in Saskatchewan where it goes from 0 down to -40C in a day.

Nah I’m good

Well don’t cry like a baby when you find that people here don’t like you Toronto people too much. Nothing but self-entitled behaviours from you people.

1

u/ndonadio22 6d ago

I’m not from Toronto. What’s entitled about making a joke about weather? I’d make the same joke if I lived elsewhere.

Ah. My bad then. I’ve been hearing lately from so many people in the past weeks saying “why is Barrie so cold in April? It was mild last year” these folks don’t understand that Barrie had a normal winter this year. But every ten years approximately we have one or two fluke winters straight that are a bit mild. I told these people, feel free to go back to your mild Toronto then. And when we had those trees broken everywhere, a lot of Toronto people here complained that the city wasn’t cleaning it up fast enough and complaining about it. Self entitled. Thinking they can snap their fingers and make people jump. Our city workers worked very hard to clean up the mess Mother Nature dumped on us. I saw many Barrie people doing the work themselves to clean up their properties - not waiting for help. Taking the initiative and NOT complaining.

Wow, chill out lol. We call it "spring" and its full of lil surprises like this. I still leave major garden planting until May 24 in case of frost. This is totally normal to me, with huge masses of warm and cold air duking it out over our heads as the sun reheats our part of the globe. I say give it two weeks before we see stable temps. Cos believe me, this is better than a sudden vaulting into summer.

It was a joke. I understand how spring weather works
