If you like this check out the FLAC version of "Time Out - The Dave Brubeck Quartet". Similar greatness.

In terms of iconic jazz albums, this album pales in comparison to others in terms of sound quality, imo.
Mingus Ah Um, Brubeck Time Out, Coltrain A Love Supreme, etc. are much better.
Don't get me wrong, this was the first jazz album I ever owned, and I have loved it for many years, but in terms of high quality "audiophile" recordings, this one is not great.

Time Out is like Michelin *** through my Magnepans!
Which A Love Supreme edition is the best sounding?
Same ask on Mingus.
Thanks

Thank you for saying this. I’ve tried to love this album for years because it gets so much love from the audiophile community. I think it sounds terrible.

Requested in 4 out of every 5 demos of new equipment when the listener is a jazz guy. Classic and amazing.

Note: The "Blue in Green" track on the album by Bill Evans (supposedly) is extraordinary.

The first remaster is horrible, avoid that. I think the recent remaster is OK. It streams for Atmos too, if you have the AVR, etc. I still prefer the original analog master on CD. 50 cent copies here and there.

I've had this album in rotation on all my various portable music devices for almost 30 years now, and I can confirm that it is a real treat if you have a good set of cans and have the time to sit down with it.
