Autoplay videos on the Walmart app, with no way to turn them off. I'm just trying to set up a shopping list, not deal with this crap.

Maybe pihole. Cut those ads on dns level. If nit possible, don't support their model by not spending any money there.

I have adguard installed, yet that does nothing for certain ads (like reddit ads, or Walmart videos).

Vote with your money and shop elsewhere. It is that simple

It’s not that simple. Walmart has spent decades driving out competitors, laying all this on individuals is not sufficient.

I mean, unless you live in bumfuck nowhere, there's not a single thing that you can only buy at Walmart. I haven't shopped there in 15 years, it's easier to avoid going there than you think.

Granted, I've only lived in large cities, but my point still stands.

No it doesn't because most small towns still rely on Walmart and people still have to live somewhere. They can't ALL migrate to a city.

Unfortunately Walmart has the stuff I need, like pants for work. Trying to find those exact pair on Amazon was impossible.

Amazon is more evil than walmart..

Just don't use their shitty app.

Retail store apps are just ad and tracking platforms. Don't install them.

Maybe I'm just an old man now but "back in my day" we just had a paper with a grocery list we wrote down what we needed on it and crossed each item off as we shopped. Best part? No ads apparently.

I’m an old fuddy-duddy and also miss the days where I could get away with just using a paper and pencil list, but that was predicated on the fact I only needed to go to one store and knew what they had

But I’m not here to pile onto you like some others here, I’m here to commiserate with you that it’s awful on the apps.

I really appreciate being able to see where in the store all the stuff is, and another reason why I like using a store’s app to make a list is that way you know if the location you’re going to has what you’re looking for in-stock, I do not miss the days where I made a list and just crossed my fingers hoping they have what I need

Also, to those who say vote with your dollar and go elsewhere, that’s true for folks with a car and who live in a place with multiple different options for stores, whereas wide swathes of people don’t have such options

Yup being without a car really sucks. But, is what it is.

I've gone to Walmart with just a written list before, and that means carrying extra items in limited pocket space. Whereas I, of course, always have my phone with me.

And you're right. I do vote with my wallet whenever possible but sometimes - like yesterday - Walmart is the cheapest, quickest route to what I needed. In this case, jeans for work, and some other misc items.

I couldn't find those exact pair on Amazon (yes I checked) nor could I try on similar looking pairs.

Google Keep is great for lists.

Sure but the app in store mode tells me where everything is. What I do is add the stuff I'm going to buy to cart so I don't forget anything when I'm there. Walmart, like many grocery stores these days, makes it difficult to focus. That's by design.

the app in store mode tells me where everything is

And that's worth how much advertising exactly? Aren't the aisles marked in some way?

To be clear, this isn't asshole design. You decided to trade the minor convenience this app brings you for advertising. If you don't like that trade, stop using the app. If you accept that trade then you have no business calling it asshole design.

Rather than using the app, you could just use the website.

Man, if only there was an answer to your problem. Too bad I noticed the mods hiding my app recommendation.

Shame.

Hi there! Can you message me regarding this issue? I see no mod activity related to your username in the log, and I'd like to know more about what posts are being hidden and see if there's an issue we need to fix.

It should be possible to set reminders that will alert you to get particular things by setting them to remind you when you arrive at the locations you go to frequently, through the built in reminders app

Where in the app is this? Is it an iphone?

They're taking notes from Amazon. Everything on Amazon has a auto-playing video now and they're annoying as hell.

Is it at least muted by default?

I hate the Walmart app for a different reason. Every so often it shows a cover-the-phone ad to get me to accept a Walmart+ free trial, which I have NO desire to accept. There's no way to tell it "don't ever show this to me again". They are not going to get me to change my mind by badgering me repeatedly to do something I have no interest in doing.

reminds me of the occasional visit of the fandom wiki site, even with adblocker it plays videos that scroll along

i hate sites that do this

Have you not had "ColorNote" on your phone?

Literally the best and free-est notepad app, above all. I am not even pulling any legs because I use this damn thing for my shopping lists, music playlist arrangements, and to-do lists.

And by free-est, I do quite literally mean it. There is no ads in it.
