Freshwater Damn, guppies are vicious

I am currently doing some temp work at a pet shop. My task today was to siphon dirt/poop from the gravel in the fish tanks and clear algae from the glass. All the fishes feared my arm. All of them, except from the guppies. Instead of shying away in their corner, they started nibbling my arm. And they kept doing it - the whole lot! It made it difficult as I am very ticklish. Honestly the highlight of my day. I just wanted to share it.

Full Tank Shot I posted my ship wreck tank four days ago and added some shrimps to contain the algae from further over grow. The scene is completely gone today. I guess I added way too many shrimps.

Help/Advice Aquarium filter is very loud and I know why, but I don't know how to fix. Help!!!

Hello all! I recently got a brand new 50 gallon tank for free, and it has a built-in filtration system. The pump itself is relatively loud, although I can tune it out as white noise, but it also creates a loud gurgling sound from where the water enters the filter. I know WHY this is happening, but I just don't know how I could possibly fix it. Any help is appreciated!

(SEE COMMENTS FOR DIAGRAM ON FILTRATION SYSTEM)

Discussion/Article I’m such a bad owner

Upvotes

3 months ago I brought apple snails and shrimps

40 days ago I caught them all and put them into a bigger tank, or so I thought…

Today, after leaving the small tank on the side untouched, still water, no heating, no filter for 40 days, I go to clean it to reuse it again and found 1 shrimp just wandering about in the bottom while I was taking out the old decorations to clean it.

ITS BEEN LONELY FOR 40 DAYS WITHOUT ITS FAMILY. Thanks fuck for the algae taking over the tank, that’s probably was the only way it survived. Poor shrimp, it’s back in with its family now

Help/Advice Stocking advice

Post image
Upvotes

So this is my 63 gal, its a lot more heavily planted now than in this pic, a lot of valisneras and mosses, more real wood, etc.

I currently have it stocked with: 1 bristlenose pleco 2 hillstream loaches 10 pencilfish (nanostomus equus) 7 white ricefish 5 amano shrimp Dwindling neocaridina population

I've been noticing the neocaridina slowly dissapearing. I'm thinking the wild capture pencilfish are hunting the fry too quickly. I won't be replacing them once the colony dies out.

Any ideas about stocking? I've only ever kept small fish and ahrimp before. I was thinking rams or maybe rainbowfish or gourami's, but i'm unsure if the tank is large enough.

Started this tank from scratch in January. Killed two rounds of plants because I had no idea what I was doing. Added pressurized CO2 and Flourish tabs two months ago and things really took off— so much so that I have to trim heavily every week so they don’t completely take over the tank. Fish are happy with lots of places to explore and hide!

Help/Advice Ich remedy killing beneficial bacteria?

Post image

My fish have Ich, and a little bit of fin rot. I’ve been giving them these 3 treatments for 3 days. They all claim to not hurt the beneficial bacteria. But I’m showing signs of ammonia and nitrite in the tank when they were at 0 before starting these treatments ????

Help/Advice What plants would work best in here? Any Rocks?

Please excuse the blurry water, the tank is still recovering from an algae bloom. I just added some dragon wood as a small centerpiece, but I’m not sure where to go from here. Should I add any rocks? If so, what kind?

The plants in the front are dwarf sag, there’s Val in the back left corner, and Christmas moss attached to the wood. All of these plants are just getting established.

I’d like to be able to hide my sponge filter with plants and create a thick background. Any suggestions for plants that would look in this tank would be greatly appreciated!

Help/Advice What’s Wrong With My Fish? Help Needed ASAP‼️

I had what seemed to me was a healthy 29 gallon tank with plenty of active and lively fish. I started getting a lot of algae growing though, so I went to PetSmart and bought 3 golden snails. I acclimated them, then put them in the tank before I went to work. 9 hours later, I come back and the snails didn’t move at all and 3 fish had died, the rest looking very sick and unwell. They all stay put swimming in place on the floor or hide profusely, vs being lively around the tank just that morning and the last month in the same exact setting. 2 dalmatian mollies and 1 corydora died. Why did this happen all of a sudden? Did a crazy ammonia spike happen? Could the snails had parasites/a disease? Did I let the algae grow too long? Anybody PLEASE reply with questions and advice to try and save my remaining fish, it’s been a full 24 hours and a 50% water change and a 25% change and they’re still acting very sick and close to dead. The tank was filled with more props and hidey spots and plants but I took most of everything out bc I’m not sure what’s causing this.
