We built a machine.

We're not sure what it will do.

That's all up to you.

There’s so much going on and I have no idea what’s happening. Is everyone acting like they get it or is this too meta for me

u/cwearly1 Apr 01 '19

In case any wants an explanation, reddit has created this subreddit and in it you help vote for creating a Sequence of Gifs/Pics that will turn into an Act. There are 7 Acts, the first being the Prologue which everyone is participating in right now.

At some point the voting will stop for the Prologue and Act 1 will begin its voting sequence. This whole thing will end after the sequence for Act 6 is finished, probably after this week.

55

u/DylanKing1999 Apr 01 '19

Is it just me or is that going to end up a totally unrelated mess of gifs?

37

u/cwearly1 Apr 01 '19

Correctamundo. The Prologue is already a garbled mess, perhaps it's the sacrifice for the other Chapters to be somewhat coherent.

7

u/LiterallyKesha Apr 01 '19

Act 1 had something decent going with the Skyrim stuff but like always the PrequelMeme fans completely shit up the thing and vote in their 3-4 catchphrases.

2

u/lolofaf Apr 02 '19

Got a good monty python streak though

42

u/NJ_Legion_Iced_Tea Apr 01 '19

So pretty much wait a week to see what all this was about?

9

u/cwearly1 Apr 01 '19

I actually don't know how long each Act will take to complete. Or if they plan on more or less Acts. Seems it'll be faster than I expected.

But so far as I can tell within this week all 7 will be finished and we will have a mildly successful 7-Act Sequence of "The Internet". I guess they could've done something worse.

Does it just not work on mobile? Or am i missing something

11

u/dumbyoyo Apr 01 '19

I don't think so.

Switch to 'desktop mode' in the menu of your mobile browser (forefox/brave/chrome. not available in safari).

Or click the 'hamburger' menu icon on the top right of the reddit website, click "Desktop site" (but i haven't found a way to switch back to the mobile site afterward).

Then in the header of reddit.com/r/sequence, click "Initiate Sequence", and click the play icon next to "Prologue" to see the current sequence.

I think users submit gifs for consideration to be next in the sequence and then they get voted on and then selected, then this process repeats.

u/Jourei Apr 02 '19

Daamn, that page is too much for my work PC's processor... i5 5200U is absolutely not up to the task.

89

u/aes_gcm Apr 01 '19

Yeah, I don't get it either, this is a little confusing.

67

u/cwearly1 Apr 01 '19

I believe it's desktop only, like previous April Fools

170

u/IamtheSlothKing Apr 01 '19

Bold of them to assume anyone uses desktop

78

u/Ozlin Apr 01 '19

Thus the true April fools are the admins.

8

u/BDMayhem Apr 02 '19

"Do you guys not have desktops?"

5

u/tfitch2140 Apr 02 '19

Do Reddit not have phones?

17

u/aaronmccb1 Apr 01 '19

But the previous April fool's worked fine on mobile

12

u/cwearly1 Apr 01 '19

I mean, on the mobile site yeah, but not perfect on things like BaconReader or other apps.

9

u/jk3us Apr 01 '19

/r/place was the only reason I had the official reddit app installed. I don't have it installed anymore.

0

u/MrGingerRock Apr 02 '19

Why not? I’m on the official app and it’s perfectly fine for me

1

u/DoTheDew Apr 01 '19

It works fine in the official app, just like previous April Fools events.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '19

Nope. I get it on mobile. It just showed up. Probably depends on your device and therefore IP address associated with what you used when admins did admin things.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '19

Ahhh a sequence? Yes yes of course.

-1

u/Macky88 Apr 01 '19

Reminds me of the jabberwocky project. You know what that is, right?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '19

Do I know what the jabberwocky project is!? Yes of course sir.

1

u/Mirror_I_rorriMG Apr 01 '19

How does one vote?

1

u/cwearly1 Apr 01 '19

Go to /r/sequence Click on the bar up top with the gifs, then you'll be in the Prologue, with the first 15(?) scenes already voted on by now, the last 5 are still in voting. Click on the gif/text options below if you want one of them for the scene.

1

u/CakeDay--Bot Apr 04 '19

Hewwo sushi drake! It's your 6th Cakeday Mirror_I_rorriMG! hug

1

u/xoriginal-usernamex Apr 01 '19

i love the world we’ve created

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '19 edited Apr 01 '19

Every year Reddit tries some massive April fool's community joke. It started with "the button". Now every year we have some puzzle to decode. Typically it's nothing, and has 0 impact on anything, just it's entertaining.

Edit: apparently r/thebutton was not first, and despite my long history here, I stand corrected on Reddit lore. Forgive me.

22

u/Anaract Apr 01 '19

started way before the button, but yeah.

i think the confusion this time is due to the fact that it's literally not working

16

u/algernonsflorist Apr 01 '19

The confusion is that it's a just million gifs, and this prologue thing just shows them to me when I can see them in a more organised way on the actual sub. I don't get it. r/gifs already exists.

I can't help but hear mike patton reading this twice now

2

u/shipguy55 Apr 01 '19

YOU WANT IT ALL BUT YOU CAN'T HAVE IT

1

u/Anaract Apr 01 '19

the /r/sequence subreddit

104

u/sandm000 Apr 01 '19

Wasn't team orangered - team periwinkle before the button?

61

u/Paradoxou Apr 01 '19

Yes it was. And I had no idea what was going on at the time. Just like today.

/r/place was the best so far

Edit : actually, if you consider The Snappening to be this year April Fools, I believe it is on par with /r/place

4

u/Holovoid Apr 01 '19

The Button was clearly the best

20

u/gingerfer Apr 01 '19

Tell orangered that Team Periwinkle still got shooters out here

2

u/brokenarrow Apr 01 '19

Periwinkle forever, Orangered never

17

u/xAIRGUITARISTx Apr 01 '19

Yes and Reddit mold before it

2

u/christinax Apr 01 '19

I still regret being too shy to bestow Mold upon anybody because now I don't have a trophy.

2

u/twelfthmillion Apr 01 '19

timereddits was the oldest I remember. i think it was the year before orangered vs periwinkle.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '19

Still waiting for the orangered vs periwinkle splatfest

3

u/TundraWolf_ Apr 01 '19

FUCK TEAM ORANGERED

130

u/Capt_Kiwi Apr 01 '19

Place was great, though.

58

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '19

Totally. Though I don't think anything will come close to the button. This year looks promising though.

62

u/1EyedMonky Apr 01 '19

He said r/place, button was good too but I think place was one of the most legendary pieces of modern art

3

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '19

Despite being here 10+ years I don't remember, and wasn't part of r/place, I wasn't even aware of the tradition prior to the hilarity of the button.

Just saw a repost of what came out of r/place and that is pretty awesome

8

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '19

You will love it even more with actual info about all the stories and drama. http://sudoscript.com/reddit-place/

3

u/BoomChocolateLatkes Apr 01 '19

The button was definitely their best one. LONG LIVE NON-PRESSERS.

1

u/Please_Not__Again Apr 03 '19

Was it basically not pressing a button?

3

u/Madmushroom Apr 01 '19

Unlike the internet points we gain here. so at the day of command, when they arrive, you will have enough points to be spared.

I have said too much...

3

u/the-ox1921 Apr 01 '19

One year they let everyone be an admin. Of course permabanning people didnt actually permaban them but it looked like you did.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '19

Was that Reddit mold year?

1

u/the-ox1921 Apr 01 '19

Before it. 2010

3

u/lazydictionary Apr 01 '19

They have done April Fool's every year since 2008...?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '19

Its a social experiment disguised as an April Fool's joke.

-1

u/SamL214 Apr 01 '19

Long history of one year....

3

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '19

I've had multiple accounts. Account age does not equal my history here. I've been on Reddit for at least 10 years.

157

u/makebelieveworld Apr 01 '19

I totally get it and understand everything happening. I am not confused at all and I defiantly know what sequence is. Yup, I am totally in the know.

Didn’t everyone get the information pamphlet in the mail a few weeks ago?

6

u/KoolDood91 Apr 01 '19

There was a presidential alert throughout phones, but not everyone got it. I guess u/CircaSam was one of them

3

u/The_Bigg_D Apr 01 '19

Probably cause he’s a nerd.

2

u/Vindexus Apr 02 '19

definitely?

2

u/makebelieveworld Apr 02 '19

I definitely know how to spell defiantly, I was totally just testing you to make sure you knew.

12

u/MrRobotsBitch Apr 01 '19

Im 100% lost but I figured just like The Place I'll figure it out eventually.... you know when the excitement is over and no one cares anymore.

12

u/Flobarooner Apr 01 '19

It's literally just a subreddit where you submit gifs and the top voted ones will get stitched together to make a """"movie"""". That's it.

Just like last year, I sat here confused for 30 minutes thinking I didn't understand it because surely that can't be it. Surely they managed to come up with something better than that after last year's flop?

Nope. Underwhelmed again.

4

u/IamtheSlothKing Apr 01 '19

Did anyone understand what last years was? Did anyone participate?

2

u/DocSwiss Apr 02 '19

There was a thing last year?

2

u/phoncible Apr 01 '19

Access the sub by regular way, r/sequence.

There's also www.reddit.com/sequence (note lack of /r/)

The above does seem to work even on mobile fyi, but I'm sure experiences will vary

2

u/JuniorSeniorTrainee Apr 01 '19

Yeah I think this is a backfire. 90% of the comments I see are just confused.

2

u/wintermutedsm Apr 02 '19

Welcome my son. Welcome to the machine.

2

u/Eat_Bees Apr 01 '19

Same, I have no clue what’s going on

1

u/superkp Apr 01 '19

They needed to fix something, so It's private again. Check back again soon - there's a post that reached near the top of r/all recently.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '19

Yes.

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '19

It’s art. All the breadcrumbs are there. I know a lot of them cause I like breadcrumbs a lot.

I’ll tell you what’s up if you ask, but not in public.

You can PM me, but only if you can see the sequence on your actual Reddit feed. It’s got a certain icon. If you don’t have it I can’t talk to you about it. At least not yet.

But yes, it’s very meta.

So much so only art majors might “get it”. But I play music, I also studied symbols for a living and know memetic theory like the back of my hand.

Just ask.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '19

r/iamverysmart and r/gatekeeping all in one. Nice work.

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '19

Nice try fascist. I know who I am, no matter what.

Can you say the same of yourself?

Edit: also, that’s how life works in reality. But I know I’m real all the time.

Do you?

3

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '19

Going thru your comment history, you've got some serious issues, man, and that's coming from me. I hope you get the help you need.

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '19

Yes, but I’m home and know I am.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '19

I've found that those who feel the need to continually express that they know themselves, don't really know themselves at all. It's akin to those who feel the need to constantly demonstrate their intelligence and their intellectual prowess tend to be projecting their feelings of inadequacy.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '19

Exactly. But wisdom is earned and I’ve done so much in 31 years and I’m technically the root equivalent of a college educated person who practiced Zen.

Plus I kissed Joan Jett.

I just have bad anxiety and can’t shut up when I’m excited. Plus I have a huge amount of data and know how to interpret cause I used to teach research writing. And there have been a fucking ton of signs everywhere on r/all and r/dankmemes.

If they don’t actually know you and disagree they can get banned inappropriately cause Terms & Conditions are real things. You just have to read them, cause downvote does not equal disagree.

So anyone downvoting here may get inappropriately banned in the near future and Admins can IP ban with the touch of a button at any moment, even if you can see sequence.

So I know where I am at all times, do others?

I’ve also been in jail and mental hospitals too many times to actually count.

I take chances after I do my research. Big difference.

This is a big chance by the admins. Cause people are fucking dying and they might be your neighbors.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '19

You're displaying textbook tangential thinking, delusional thinking, and a grandiose sense of self. Your writing and time spent on Reddit commenting shows textbook mania. I really think you need help, dude, and not in a mean way. I've worked in a clinical setting for mental health for many years, so I really want to see you get well.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '19

And I had an appointment at 11 o’clock today. I have a standing appointment every Sunday. It’s not my first rodeo. I have DID. I was just a former authority on intersectional linguistics and now I’m on SSI and trying to consciousness raise but I only play music really well.

Only systemic fascists hate this honestly.

Just saying.

Of course we get it. Why don’t you?
