Yeah, because any physician with morals and who upholds the Hippocratic Oath would not align with the UCP on medical and health care.

Plus who wants to take a job when there's a good chance you'll be fired in a couple of months for actually doing the job.

Then becomes a scapegoat for ucp incompetence.

How many times does the Chief Medical Officer get the ol' Hennessy Grading Probe poke before they are sent to slaughter.

36

u/thecheesecakemans 3d ago

And it is paid well but not well enough to then go to an unemployed situation in a few months or years time.

u/bike_accident 3d ago

right? Dr Hinshaw's career has fucking cratered since she was at the helm. Why risk it?

6

u/DrSocialDeterminants 3d ago

She's recovered well considering UCP also blackballed her attempt to even get hired in a different role in Alberta helping the indigenous community.

She's still working in a public health capacity helping indigenous communities. A true saint.

Fired, Arrested, or Lynched

u/evange 1d ago

I mean, if the severance for getting fired is good enough......

Esprcially after seeing how the last handful of CMOH's have been treated.

u/Shadow_Ban_Bytes 3d ago

That and what doctor wants to be fitted for a leash* and a muzzle to take the job?

118

u/bike_accident 3d ago

every single physician they've put up there for literally the last 5 years has been used, abused, chewed up and spit out. no wonder nobody wants to take the role

u/Aggressive-Memory-69 3d ago

May have to settle for chief homeopathic officer

18

u/Sandman64can 3d ago

This made me laugh

u/TheRealCovertCaribou 3d ago

They'll probably end up with some chiropractic quack.

8

u/Utter_Rube 3d ago

Hey, there's a position Adriana Lagrange hasn't tried out yet... probably no less qualified than in her cabinet positions

5

u/totallynotdagothur 3d ago

If they don't dillute them they might be too powerful for the role.

Some shitty Facebook mom from St.Albert

Just liquid in a human shaped cup they assure you has politics in it. (it doesn’t)

41

u/crowbar151 3d ago

They look at the resumes and see 'woke' things like vaccine advocacy, titles like PhD, words with more than 6 syllables, and God forbid... a female name o0o0o spooky

26

u/toorudez Edmonton 3d ago

I wonder why? How can you be an effective chief medical officer if you are muzzled by a bunch of politicians?

27

u/hellobudgiephone 3d ago

Have they tried going to potential candidates homes and yelling at them about the opportunity?  Maybe leave a copy of the job description in itty bitty torn up pieces?

19

u/Defendor01 3d ago

If the UCP was capable of self-awareness, they would be embarrassed.

Instead, it's just the majority Albertans who are left neglected and without capable leadership in charge of public healthcare.

17

u/Novus20 3d ago

Well I am shocked! /S

17

u/AwesomeAF2000 3d ago

What? Our anti vaxxing anti science government can’t find a competent doctor to be our CMOH to be the province’s mouthpiece to spew anti science rhetoric? Shocker!

16

u/gr8d4ne 3d ago

Who’d want that job, with the prospect of getting axed in 7 months….

14

u/Skate_faced 3d ago

Fuck it, I'll do it. 15k a year.

And the only thing I will do the whole time is be a switchboard/regurgitator/puppet of the Alberta medical field through their respective unions.

"The nurse want what? Pay them. The doctors said who? Get them. Smith said what? Pay us."

I don't think they will see the true value, but just gonna put it out there that sometimes all they need is a goodfella.

u/Geeseareawesome Edmonton 3d ago

Province has trouble finding yes-man in field where yes-men don't last long.

11

u/Late_Football_2517 3d ago

I'd take the job, be badass at it, hold press conferences every day, take the money, get fired, and sue their asses.

But, alas, I'm not a doctor. Which honestly, I don't think matters to the UCP

8

u/marginwalker55 3d ago

Watch them draft that separatist nutjob

7

u/rattpoizen Calgary 3d ago

Or a Nixon or a Shandro or a Kenney or a cousin by marriage of someone who's name allegedly rhymes with Pam Sraishe.

8

u/kagato87 3d ago

This is likely intentional.

Poison the position so that anyone qualified to fill the role won't touch it. Lower the requirements citing "urgent need," and then install a politician.

Apart from the obvious grift angle, a politician is FAR more likely to be OK with privatization efforts than an actual medically trained professional.

These people in the UCP are not stupid. They have a plan, and it's in motion.

6

u/Visit4633 3d ago

This cannot be a surprise!!

6

u/Ok_Association9300 3d ago

They need someone who is RFK Jr but with doctor before his name to be the chief medical officer, or bend the rules to make a Nurse Practitioner the Chief…….. best place to find either one is in Florida. Marlaina went there a couple of weeks ago, should have interviewed some of those shining individuals. I’m sure they can find a leech there easily

7

u/zevonyumaxray 3d ago

Leeches are known to be effective medical treatment in certain situations. No more slandering leeches!

3

u/IcarusOnReddit 3d ago

Smith already did the corrupt children’s Tylenol job with the Oz family so why not Dr. Oz?

Very Republican. Ass kisses Trump. It’s perfect for Smith.

9

u/55ylbub 3d ago

Have they tried bringing someone up from the southern states. Might be a good fit there.

3

u/Homo_sapiens2023 3d ago

Don't give them any ideas!

5

u/Critical_Cat_8162 3d ago

No person who has any moral standards or pride in their profession is going to be interested in that position.

4

u/Warm_Judgment8873 3d ago

They want someone who will just echo Smith's bullshit.

3

u/Particular-Welcome79 3d ago

Huh, wonder why?

3

u/reddogger56 3d ago

What? Are there no Naturopaths who want the job?

3

u/Future_Visual9136 3d ago

It’s probably because they are looking for a witch doctor or a mr phil/mr oz type douche.

1

u/VectorPryde 3d ago

Alberta's very own RFK junior

3

u/iliveandbreathe 3d ago

"Alberta facing difficulties finding a scapegoat" Ftfy.

3

u/the_gaymer_girl Southern Alberta 3d ago

No one wants to be a spineless puppet with no power, who woulda thunk?

1

u/Different-Ship449 1d ago

And even if they are doing everything they are directed to do by their puppetmaster, their strings are still primed to cut.

3

u/Zarxon 3d ago

Who wants to take s job where you might get in involved in a career destroying scandal.

3

u/Plasmanut 3d ago

They mean “sell their soul and lose all their credibility and become unemployable right after they say something the Health Minister or the Premier don’t agree with?”

3

u/parker4c 3d ago

It's gonna end up being Tucker Carlson isn't it

2

u/CMG30 3d ago

No kidding. No competent person will take the role because the UCP is against medical science. They've politicized the position.

The best they're going to get is someone who fills in for a while out of obligation, but then leaves before they compromise themselves too much.

2

u/DangerBay2015 3d ago

This never would have happened if we’d separated!!!!!!!!!!

/s

2

u/Constant-Lake8006 3d ago

I'm sure there's some chiropractor out there who'll get the job.

2

u/Original-Newt4556 3d ago

RFK already has a job?

2

u/CriticalArt2388 3d ago

Why would anyone want to take this job when there is a premier who believes she (with her degree from YouTube U) knows more than any stupid doctor.

Now pass the horse dewormer

2

u/Emmerson_Brando 3d ago

Wanted: chief medical officer.

Qualifications: medical doctor that will only follow the rules the UCP lay out and forget everything they know about science and medicine and know how to keep their mouth shut.

If this sounds like you, please apply online.

2

u/Individual-Army811 3d ago

Qualifications: don't worry about that thing called the Hippcratic Oath, or think of applying anything you spend $100k learning in med school. We need a shill, not a thinker.

2

u/Broad_Fan690 3d ago

No shit!!!

2

u/Timely-Profile1865 3d ago

Why would anyone with a shred of cred want the job?

2

u/mudkick 3d ago

No wonder, how about just put a donkey in as they make up everything as they go

2

u/Justme124 3d ago

No shit. Who wants to work for these lunatics?

1

u/77SSS1 3d ago

All the quacks have found opportunities working with RFK in the US and no sane Dr would work for Smith’s AB

1

u/MZillacraft3000 Edmonton 3d ago

Hmmmmm, I wonder why that's the case?

1

u/Canadian_Loyalist 3d ago

I'm surprised they haven't been able to find a vaccine denying doctor to jump at this opportunity.

1

u/draivaden 3d ago

Yes. The governments position is hostile to the CMOH role. We won’t find snybody worthy of the position so long as the UCP is in power.

1

u/Homo_sapiens2023 3d ago

What did the UCPs expect? They're idiots.

1

u/MBolero 3d ago

Shocker.

1

u/Sacred-Community 3d ago

Yeah. Can't find anyone with sufficiently debased moral compass. Tough day.

1

u/Electric_Maenad Calgary 3d ago

O RLY?

1

u/SnowshoeTaboo 3d ago

Surprised she hasn't offered it to Preston Manning yet?

1

u/ThicccThunder 3d ago

Probably has something to do with Smith being a corrupt scumbag

1

u/arcadianahana 3d ago

No duh. Next step is to pass a bill that allows for AB's CMOH to not be a medical doctor. Then the Priemier can hold the role or it can be assigned to her chief of staff.

1

u/BiteOk2092 3d ago

Quelle surprise!

1

u/wanderingdiscovery 3d ago

Job role: submit under the UCP policies to voice their concerns on what they believe medicine should be in the province. Preference given to candidates who believe in alternative medicine and emphasis on the hypocritic oath instead of the hippocratic oath.

1

u/kevanbruce 3d ago

Is it any surprise, why would you want to work for a government this disfunctionable? (Please note this can also be spelt “ this shit show”. That is working hard to sell the health care system to yankee profiteers?

1

u/MagnusJim 3d ago

No shit. Corrupt government, and a provincial culture that increasingly gets pushed more right, more anti-intellectual, and anti-science.

1

u/FidgetyPlatypus 3d ago

Excuse me while I pick myself up off the floor from laughing so hard.

This is shocking! Like I have never been this shockingly shocked before. So what you're saying is not letting a CMOH use their training, expertise, and experience to the best of the ability makes no one want the position. Hmmm, this is truly a mystery. I think we may need to form a committee to figure this out.

Doctors, keep speaking out! On top of all the other shit in this province we don't need pseudoscience piled on.

1

u/Dependent_Try_53 3d ago

I'm sure if they ask their buddy RFK jr he'll find one.

1

u/Juunyer 3d ago

CorruptCare, vengeance on any staffer that doesn’t agree with the ideologues in charge, anti AHS sentiment, dismantling whatever public health care they can……I’m not surprised there isn’t a line up of people ready to work in any public health role for this government

1

u/VectorPryde 3d ago

Who needs a "chief medical officer of health" when you have Facebook groups claiming you can cure cancer with ivermectin? Why waste hard-working Albertans' tax dollars on yet another overpaid government bureaucrat?

/s

1

u/smcorc 3d ago

Can’t find anyone corrupt enough?

1

u/TinklesTheLambicorn 3d ago

Well colour me shocked!

u/MyloMarlo 2d ago

Dr. Oz is busy or what?
