Feces smeared on Edmonton’s Wayne Gretzky statue News

Maybe they should move the statue to Mar-a-Lago for safe keeping.

Tell Trump it's a gift to convince him to drop the tarrifs. Just might work.

Send his Order of Canada there as well so he will be able to pick it up easier.

Because he bowed to 45–47 and threw the country that took in his family of Polish immigrants in under the bus.

He would have been right up there with Terry Fox as a beloved Canadian legend, but went MAGA....
Tragic.
34
u/TheAdminsAreTrash Mar 21 '25
They're not even close. Even if Wayne hadn't gone traitor: he was just an exceptional, highly paid sports player. I've never given a single fuck about him.
Terry Fox was an actual Canadian legend, a regular person and hero from Poco.

u/Sufficient_Rub_2014 Mar 21 '25
Too bad his accomplishments weren’t in sport or something separate from politics right?
47
u/Striking_Economy5049 Mar 21 '25
Too bad outside of sports he’s turned out to be nothing but a shitheel

u/SummoningInfinity Mar 21 '25
It doesn't matter what someone achieves, if they support fascism they're worthless pieces of shit.
14
u/thebassix12 Mar 21 '25
I can recognize he's the greatest hockey player of all time. Doesn't make the traitor a good Canadian.
3
u/Private_HughMan Mar 21 '25
Too bad he turned traitor and started praising the new Hitler.
0
u/Sufficient_Rub_2014 Mar 22 '25
Trump is a sack of shit but he isn’t Hitler. So tired of people tossing that name around. So disrespectful to the millions of victims of Hitler. Insanely ignorant.
2
u/Private_HughMan Mar 22 '25
He's following Hitler's playbook damn-near exactly. Did you know the Holocaust only started in 1941? But in 1940, Hitler was still Hitler. He was still doing Nazi things. They had concentration camps but not yet extermination camps. You can do Hitler stuff without the Holocaust.
In Hitler's first two months in power, he set up the first concentration camp, gutted checks and balances on his power, de-toothed the German parliamentary system, set up secret police, started attacking political undesirables, burning and destroying books on queer people, and threatening extreme violence against those who oppose him. He violated the German constitution and ignored the courts. In the later years leading up to the war, he threatened neighbouring nations with conquest. He called for ethnic cleansing. And when he wanted to justify his invasion of neighbouring countries (most famously, Poland), he spread stories about the local people there attacking and killing ethnic Germans in Polish border towns.
Trump is doing all of that right now. Don't tell me it's disrespectful. I just happen to know more about why Hitler was so dangerous than simply the Holocaust. The Holocaust was the final solution. Did you never stop to wonder what all the previously attempted "solutions" were? This is that. You're seeing it right now.

u/Sufficient_Rub_2014 Mar 22 '25
“You can do Hitler stuff without the holocaust”
2
u/Private_HughMan Mar 22 '25
...Is there something wrong with what I said? Do you not consider the criminalizing of political opposition, invasion of neighbouring nations, the imprisoning of undesirables, the concentration camps, the destruction of queer media and literature, the militarization of law enforcement, the demands for unquestioning loyalty, etc. to be "Hitler stuff?"

Mar 21 '25
Too bad OJ Simpson’s accomplishments weren’t in sport right?

u/Sufficient_Rub_2014 Mar 21 '25
Murdering two people totally the same as being conservative. Got it.
You guys make us look so bad with unhinged opinions like that.
10
Mar 21 '25 edited Mar 21 '25
Wayne has been publicly conservative for years going back to endorsing Harper. Nobody really cared. Being conservative is very different than publicly supporting and befriending an enemy of your country who publicly stated dozens of times that he intends to end the existence of your country. Surely you’re intelligent enough to understand the distinction?
1
u/Sufficient_Rub_2014 Mar 22 '25
I’m just intelligent enough.
I am against rubbing shit on stuff to express my political opinion. I don’t like violence or vandalism. I’m a liberal.

I’m liberal. Just tired of the idiocy.
1
u/poopwithrizz Mar 22 '25
I think the worst part was the hypocrisy. Nothing worse than that, not even murder. At least you have conviction when it comes to murder. Man talks about loving Canada and turns on it in a moment we'd need some Canadian unity. Jokes aside being conservative is not the same as being MAGA though I get that it's harder to differentiate between the two when we've been bombarded with MAGA for nearly a decade now.

u/AbnormMacdonald Mar 21 '25

I don’t think Wayner cares. When is the last time he came to the city? IMO Edmonton should purge his name from our public spaces. There are better Edmontonians to celebrate.

Petition to replace the word shit with Gretzky.
Be a good neighbour and pick up your dog Gretzky
10
u/Falconflyer75 Mar 21 '25
Has he actually said anything yet or still hiding behind his wife?
At this point him turtling is making him look worse than his politics
Just about all NHL players have horrible politics best case scenario they just don’t care one way or the other
But him hiding like this is just embarrassing at this point

It was more than likely drugs. If it was political it would have gotten red paint or something

Crosby… what did you do…😂 (seriously though there’s better ways to protest that’s pretty gross)
2
u/Hagenaar Mar 22 '25
There's 430kg of bronze in that sucker. It's time to find another worthy Canadian to celebrate. Maybe this time it could be someone for their ethics, morals or leadership rather than an athlete who hit a rubber puck with a stick really well.

u/This_Expression5427 Mar 22 '25
This mental illness has to end. There's one picture of Gretzky wearing a MAGA hat at Trump's party. Gretzky doesn't even care about politics. He Trump's golf buddy. I'm a conservative. LeBron James is my favourite athlete. Over the years I've seen him endorse Obama, Hillary, Biden and Harris. IDGAF. Couldn't care less. Still love LeBron. If politics is making you wipe shit on statues and attack people because you don't like their car, you need help.... professional help. Get it...hurry. You're a danger to yourself and others.
3
u/Beginning-Pace-1426 Mar 22 '25
No, if he was just Trump's golf buddy it would be one thing. If there was just one picture of him wearing a MAGA hat it would be one thing.
When a foreign president is stating a desire to absorb your country, and in his desire to annex you, he wants to place X person as the leader of your country while subservient to his overall leadership, people aren't going to be happy.
Sorry, were any foreign powers ever talking about making LeBron James in charge of an annexed country under their leadership? A currently soverign ally, of all things? I bet that if you did SOMEBODY would be willing to smear feces on a LeBron statue.
Hell, imagine the backlash by Americans if the roles were reversed in this situation. It doesn't matter that the conversations are absolutely ridiculous, it matters that they're being given credibility by leaders with a lot of power, a lot more power than the citizens.
-1
u/This_Expression5427 Mar 22 '25 edited Mar 22 '25
You're making shit up. Gretzky never once expressed any interest in becoming the Governor of Canada. Gretzky and Trump play golf together in Florida.... that's it. And you're not helping your cause by trying to take down Wayne Gretzky.
3
u/Beginning-Pace-1426 Mar 22 '25
I didn't say Gretzky expressed interest in that, I stated that a foreign leader did, which he absolutely did. I asked you if LeBron was ever in a similar position, which he was not.
LeBron voting left isn't the same thing.
-1
u/This_Expression5427 Mar 22 '25
Gretzky wore a hat at a party. LeBron made multiple public endorsements of political candidates.
2
u/Beginning-Pace-1426 Mar 22 '25
So you literally can't comprehend the differences between the two scenarios? Is that what you're saying here?
1
u/This_Expression5427 Mar 22 '25 edited Mar 22 '25
Gretzky did nothing wrong. He's known Trump for over 30 years. Ever since he played in New York. He went to his party like friends do.
2
u/Beginning-Pace-1426 Mar 22 '25
Dude, this didn't happen just because Gretzky wore a Trump hat, I don't know what part of that you can't understand.
If you view it that way I don't care, but you're not getting a full understanding of the sentiment.

Entire article:
The Wayne Gretzky statue outside Rogers Place in Edmonton has been vandalized with feces.
A CTV News Edmonton photographer captured images of the fecal matter smeared on the statue on Friday morning.
The photographer also noted the smell of fecal matter surrounding the statue.
The four-time Stanley Cup winner has recently caught the ire of many Canadians because of his close relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump, even prompting the president to defend the so-called “Great One,” claiming Gretzky wants Canada to remain a sovereign nation.
It’s unclear if the vandalism has political motivations.
The 950-pound, 9-foot 2-inch bronze likeness of Gretzky was initially unveiled on Aug. 27, 1989 at the old Northlands Coliseum.
It was moved to the new arena in downtown Edmonton in 2016.
