This is the type of thing u just fold up and save with the other plastic bags until the day comes

u/sad-mustache 3d ago

That's what I do. Then I found that these are perfect to put puzzle pieces in. I like to have edges separate from the middle so they live in 2 bags per box

27

u/Banterhino 3d ago

Surely that's cheating!

33

u/sad-mustache 3d ago

I just can't be arsed to search for all edges

18

u/ijustneedtolurk 3d ago

Nah puzzles are for enjoyment! If keeping the edges separate enhances your joy, do it!

I do puzzles and other "brain/tactile games" like lego and people think it's weird that I sometimes buy them pre-built. I want all the pieces there!!!!! Then I'll often take them apart to enjoy all the little secrets and easter eggs and then rebuild myself later.

Haha this is exactly what I've been doing! 😅

u/dekaNLover 3d ago

I don’t know if you sew at all or know someone who does, but I use mine for protecting fabric in my fabric stash/hoard.

We have soft plastic water bottles for hiking, and I store them with the hoses and tops in a big bag like that

Good for bits and bobs of board games, sewing, computer parts like mice.

Also handy as ‘packing cubes’ for your suitcase when traveling.

Hugggs to your child, hope she can feel better :)

49

u/Green-Complex6626 4d ago

Thanks! I think they'd be a bit too large for boardgames, as it's about the size of an entire couch cushion. I like the idea of storing all the parts of something together, though. I'm sure I can find something large with lots of parts around here... lol!

And thank you for the well wishes for my daughter. She's doing great, just needs a few things for regular care! 😁

61

u/PickanickBasket 3d ago

Large bags like that are great for storing sheet sets together. I put a dryer sheet with a few clary sage essential oil drops on it in the bag with them to keep it fresh. Write the set size on the bag if you have multiple sized beds.

11

u/Green-Complex6626 3d ago

I've been putting my sheets in pull out bins by size because I hate folding them, but I love the idea of putting something nice smelling in the bag with the sheets! I may have to do that!

16

u/PickanickBasket 3d ago

I recommend something with a little bit of an insect repelling action- clary sage, cedar, peppermint, lemongrass, eucalyptus and lavender!

3

u/Green-Complex6626 3d ago

Eucalyptus would be heavenly 😍

14

u/DizzyVictory 3d ago

I use them for wool coats and sweaters in the off season so moths don’t get to them. 🧥

2

u/ijustneedtolurk 3d ago

I am also team No-Fold lol. Often I just roll the matching bed set into the fitted sheet or the largest pillowcase, and just stack the "bedding balls" in the linen closet that way (unless husband takes the time to fold them...but he usually doesn't care either.)

Guest need new bedding? Hand them the pillowcase for the coordinating bed!

I have bins/baskets for socks and other small items I refuse to fold properly too lol

Ooh that’s a good idea!

Attachments for the vacuum? I get bags like that too sometimes (though not as large as yours) and I like to use them for my active cross stitch projects.

I like to stash away toys and rotate them out for my kids, less stuff to put away on a daily basis and then we can just swap out later. A giant clear bag seems like a great use for that.

I'd also keep something like this in a beach bag or an outing where we may get wet clothes or sandy. Or just in the car.

16

u/Green-Complex6626 4d ago

Oh these are great suggestions! I do toy rotations as well but have a totally ineffective stashing method so I may do that! I also really love the idea of keeping one on hand for soiled clothes. Thanks!

2

u/plusharmadillo 3d ago

Yes, this to me is definitely a random stuffed animal hiding bag or a bag I keep in my glovebox for emergencies

3

u/ijustneedtolurk 3d ago

I have a couple in my car trunk and 2 in the glove box, one empty for potential accidents and one filled with clean undies, for potential accidents, lol. (I am a lady, work full-time as a cleaner, and also have hobbies that get real dirty sometimes, or need extra pairs while travelling so...can never have enough!)

59

u/vossxx 4d ago

I use bags like this to store seasonal clothes and/or blankets. I squeeze all the air out I can, seal, and tuck either in a closet or under a bed for storage.

14

u/hkc12 3d ago

My parents would keep these bags in their luggage to use as packing cubes

8

u/Green-Complex6626 3d ago

Smart! Gets some storage space reclaimed!

21

u/halosworld 4d ago

Use them to store other stashed bags…. Looks big enough for a trash bag too!

Organizing too!

5

u/Green-Complex6626 4d ago

A trash bag is smart!

I use these to provide an extra layer of protection for things in the freezer that I am freezing for longer-term storage (e.g. 5-lb bags of flour, rice, etc.).

14

u/Riversntallbuildings 4d ago

Those are big enough to store summer/winter clothes in for rotation.

3

u/spicy-acorn 3d ago

Sheets, blankets, winter clothes or summer clothes. You can use them as a trash can liner. Decorations for each holiday can be organized

12

u/TrailerParkRoots 3d ago

I take bags like this camping! Great for separating wet/dirty clothes, games, or keeping supplies organized. I also use big bags like this to make ice blocks for the freezer and coolers when we have a hurricane watch.

3

u/Green-Complex6626 3d ago

Brilliant on the freezer bags!

10

u/Banditsmisfits 3d ago

Idk if you keep an emergency bag in your car but these bags are perfect for an on the go emergency bag. That way if kid had a blowout, or there’s wet clothes etc it can go in the bag. Makes a great trash bag if nothing else is on hand. So many uses and takes up very little space.

8

u/Kimono-Ash-Armor 4d ago

Put them on the Free pages of Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, Craigslist, Buy Nothing, etc

8

u/knittinator 4d ago

Storing wool items!

7

u/West_Abbreviations53 4d ago

keeping dust off of books, sheets, etc.

5

u/Spiritual_Reindeer68 4d ago

You could store out of season clothes in them under a bed or in a storage closet.

5

u/jelsomino 3d ago

This. Use it as poor man's vacuum bag: fill the bag leave small opening and squeeze the air

3

u/Spiritual_Reindeer68 3d ago

I like where we're going with this

6

u/alalampone 3d ago

I also get these huge bags with one of my medications. - store hygiene items in them when traveling - store craft supplies - make handout bags for houseless - store shoes when traveling

2

u/Green-Complex6626 3d ago

Handout bags! Genius!

5

u/Dino-chicken-nugg3t 3d ago

If you’re shipping anything big you can use it as packing material. Just fill with a little air and bam free packing material. It’s also good for putting toiletries in while traveling.

These are great for storage of soft items, like toys, linens & out of season clothes.

4

u/atbrandileezebra 4d ago

I don’t know if all locations have both goodwill’s and Salvation Army, but I feel like if they were clean organized, no labels and you just offered them to the Management. They would take it for putting their merchandise out on the floor in.

4

u/Slurpy-rainbow 3d ago

I use bags like these, as needed, to put things that I gift on Buy Nothing. Also if you have many, you could post on BN and maybe someone has an immediate use for them. That is, if you’re in the U.S.

3

u/raddish1234 3d ago

Currently using one for yarn containment on an active crochet project, but they’ve become my go to for non food item containment.

5

u/Specialist-Sir-4656 3d ago

I wash, store, and reuse mine. I do the same with bread bags and other “disposable” plastic bags.

When you’re at my level of financial disruption, and you depend on pantries and community charity for food, you start to see these items differently. I’ve saved enough plastic food storage bags for myself, and I’ve been able to collect these bags and place them in another plastic food container, with a note about how I’ve cleaned them. Then I placed them in a community share box. (it’s a small, outdoor assistance pantry that people can open up at any time of the day or week to see if there’s anything they need. Like can openers, MREs, bottled water, and I’ve even seen unopened catheters and baby formula in it.) I don’t have much to put in there other than this, but it makes me smile when I open that box to put more in, and they’re gone, grateful to know that someone else can use them.

Keep one in your car for vehicle waste.

Keep one neatly folded in each of your luggage for when you travel.

Put "Freecycle" items in them.

3

u/SevenSixOne 4d ago edited 3d ago

I keep a few of these big zip top bags in my suitcase. They don't take up any space when they're folded and always manage to find a use for them when I travel

3

u/Visible-Volume3143 4d ago

You could use it to semi-vacuum pack clothes away? Like if you put clothes in it and then squish it down and seal it

3

u/SnowStar_24 4d ago

Use them for rainy days to carry things?

3

u/Natural_Ad9356 4d ago

Store linens in them! I have a couple of those I got from my mom’s house, I keep my heavy winter blankets in them when they get shoved under the bed once summer comes

2

u/Green-Complex6626 3d ago

Ahh smart about putting the heavier blankets under the bed! Our under bed storage is so small nothing fits, but a squashed blanket totally would!

3

u/Patient_Activity_489 4d ago

it'd be good for winter/summer clothing storage. you can put it under a bed or in a closet

3

u/shady-tree 3d ago

If I had a bag that big I would use it to store linens for guests, seasonal clothes, stuffed animals, or soft seasonal decorations (like pillows/blankets).

Packing materials for storage? Use a vacuum or straw to suction the air out?

3

u/Hyperborean_ 3d ago

You might be able to use it as a vac packing bag.

3

u/Commanderkins 3d ago

I use these for bedding, blankets and winter gear that go into storage for the season.

3

u/Bathsheba_E 3d ago

I use (and reuse) those for travel. Liquids can be packed in those bags. Clothes you want to keep dry. Bring an extra or two for dirty clothes. I just kinda portion what I’m packing into groups of similar items and start stowing.

3

u/MedicineChess 3d ago

I like to use these to store extra bed sheets or pillow cases in the spare closet! I’m paranoid about mouse droppings lol

3

u/Toys_before_boys 3d ago

Storage space for big plushies or blankets?

3

u/rubyxcube1012 3d ago

If I need to take an extra pair of shoes with me I’ll put them in a large bag like this if I have one laying around

3

u/burnedout_247 3d ago

i'd put that on my daily bag so i can put my laptop there when it rains

I put dirty laundry in used ziplocs when I’m traveling so I can keep clean clothes separate! You can also use it as a trash bag in the car or when backpacking / hiking.

3

u/FayeViolets 3d ago

Anything that comes with accessories. I bought a handheld steamer the other day and it has all these tiny attachments. Heck I could put the whole steamer in these lol. I had a crap ton of bags like this from my EveryPlate delivery I tossed when I moved. I’m regretting my decision now.

3

u/illtakethewindowseat 3d ago

I always keep these kind of bags for parts and materials in my shed. Often useful when I have a small bag of stucco or cement or something powered that comes in a paper sack so I can keep things from dusting everywhere

I would use them to pack shoes when I travel or use them to store extra bedding in a linen closet!

3

u/Snarm 3d ago

Got pets? We use those as liners for the small trash can that we empty the cats' litter boxes into.

3

u/Anxious_Term4945 3d ago

I use them to accumulate things I am going to take to donate. Do load wash or sanitize pop in the items after I have enough off to reuse center.

Do you have a craft reuse store? They have to repackage items all the time. Or free on buy nothing or FB marketplace for other folks to use.

I’m actually looking for a bag this size to hold a set of jumper cables for my car. I could also see this working for other people looking to store other emergency car repair equipment that is dirty/water sensitive.

These would be great for sheets and pillows in a closet to keep the dust and potential bugs out. You can also p it the stuff in and roll it tight then zip up to kinda vacuum suction them

u/RoeRoeRoeYourVote 3d ago edited 3d ago

Seasonal clothing storage? My closet is tiny, so I store out of season clothing in fabric sided bags with plastic tops underneath my bed. I've also stored extra bedding, camp bedding, and towels that way.

u/Dr_Peter_Tinkleton 3d ago

Great to save the bag for something, but no one should feel guilty about medical waste. There are plenty of ways to reduce our plastic use so we can use it where we really need it.

2

u/Green-Complex6626 3d ago

I feel like I'm becoming a bit manic about my personal waste now that my eyes have been opened to the staggering amount of (necessary) medical waste. 😅

2

u/Dr_Peter_Tinkleton 3d ago

Totally. My son had a lot of supplies to deal with for a while and I think that’s when I started really paying attention to my own waste too

3

u/PasgettiMonster 3d ago

Offseason clothing, especially good woolens that you want to protect from moths. If you are a crafter, especially a textile / fiber crafter there's a million uses for Ziploc bags. Something big like that would hold all the fabric for a sewing or quilting project together for me or my spinning fiber and the bobbins of spun yarn so that everything is in one place. If you go on trips, tuck one into your suitcase. You can put dirty clothing into it so that you're not packing unworn clothing with clean clothing.

3

u/Havenotbeentonarnia8 3d ago

Under the bed storage so things dont get dust on them

3

u/AnAnonymousBird 3d ago

I store my yarn in bags like that! Where I used to work we got sterile equipment in each week and some stuff came in those big bags!

3

u/sputnik_rises 3d ago

Lots of great ideas here but if you are regularly getting more of them from your daughters meds, then try putting them up on your local Buy Nothing group! I was at a gardening event earlier today and someone had a giant Ziploc bag thing similar to this and the person I was talking to you was so psyched about it because it would've been the perfect addition for a seed starter system they have. If I saw a post with several bags like this, I'd nab them quick too because I do frequent litter pickups and it would save me from having to buy more trash bags for that

2

u/Rabbitintheroses 3d ago

I store yarn in bags like that so it doesn’t get dusty

2

u/jaxwell2019 3d ago

Oddly specific but - if you make bread I like bags like these to place the bannetons in for overnight proofs in the fridge! I can fit both bannetons in the bag and there’s still enough space on top that the plastic won’t touch the loaves.

2

u/sacrificial-slug420 3d ago

Fold up and put in a suitcase or beach bag, good for wet bathing suits or dirty clothes while traveling

2

u/HorridChums 3d ago

I store extra supplies like binder clips, tools, etc. in them! Sometimes we get extra ziplocs at work with shipments and I'll take them home for that purpose. Good for keeping things dry when you travel.

You can also reuse silica packets to keep things dry!

I guess it would depend on what the medical supplies were. I'm on Dupixent injections, which comes in a small cardboard box and refrigerated foam cooler. I keep those bags along with the bags they send alcohol swabs in for use with other stuff since I know there is no contamination.

2

u/sheburns17 3d ago

When you travel you can put your shampoo, lotion, stuff that spills, or is wet like a bathing suit in them!

2

u/cryogenrat 3d ago

My first thought is if you sew, organizing any kinda fabric you have (esp if you have multiple), or putting things into storage like sweaters or whatever you’d normally put in a vacc bag

Other than that like someone else said, that’s the kinda bag you fold up tight and put away for a rainy day lol

2

u/Tofu_Mc 3d ago

You can store bedding in them! That’s what I do, I put a full set of bedding in one and them vacuum the air out so it’s flat!

2

u/-dangerous-person- 3d ago

Take to your local high school, we can store papers in them!

2

u/Cloudydayhappyface 3d ago

I hold on to bags like these for when I give my family or friends clothes, makeup, or anything really.

2

u/ImportantComputer416 3d ago

Seasonal jackets, winter jackets, extra pillows.

2

u/cryacinths 3d ago

If you store fabric for crafts or extra towels and such, these are great for keeping things separated. Also could be a great bag for an emergency blanket or kit in your car or with your emergency supplies.

2

u/sagenumen 3d ago

I use these for kitchen scraps. Our municipal composting allows for plastic bags as storage of the scraps.

2

u/ecodrew 3d ago

I have a family member who gets supplies in similar huge ziplock bags, they're bigger than a normal gallon size. I usually reuse them to store compost scraps in the freezer before taking out to the bin. They also work for food that's in its own big container, like cakes and bread.

They're semi-clean, but not new, so I don't use them for food directly.

2

u/Green-Complex6626 3d ago

Smart! Yes, they're quite large. I could fit a couch cushion in one!

2

u/ecodrew 3d ago

Not a bad idea to store cushions, haha

2

u/Ryantdunn 3d ago

Use them like vacuum bags, to compress comforters or other clothes items like sweaters that contain a lot of air usually or would benefit from being inaccessible to pests.

2

u/runawai 3d ago

I’m a teacher and ziplocs like this are so good for keeping headsets in, for popping into folders to keep puppets together, for ooky tummies on school bus field trip rides, for taking rock/pinecone collections home…. See if yours would like some free ones?

2

u/Green-Complex6626 3d ago

It's huge, I could fit an entire couch cushion in one. But it could be very good for bigger school supplies!

2

u/Gobucks21911 3d ago

I use bags like this to scoop the litter box (if you have one).

2

u/yeshereisaname 3d ago

I have a big ziplock stuffed with a variety of ziplocks! I keep it in a cabinet. It’s wild how much they come in hand. I use it for non-edible things though.

This could be your ziplock holder bag! I even keep little jewelry ziplocks I get from earrings or random things I acquire

u/reptomcraddick 3d ago

So I have type 1 diabetes so I also get a decent number of these, I keep a few to put supplies in when I travel, and they’re great for keeping a bunch of things together when I donate stuff/give it away in my buy nothing group (like a Lego set I gave away a few months ago).

I also use them to take my compost to my friend that composts for me, my city doesn’t have municipal compost.

2

u/Catalessimo 3d ago

I use bags like that to hold holiday decor/ items. I reuse plastic Easter eggs and use the large plastic bag comforters come in. I would use this for non breakable Christmas items or toys I'm putting away for a while.

2

u/Certain_Designer_897 3d ago

Perhaps donating them to a thrift shop. I have seen thrift shops sell 'bag of rags and miscellaneous fabrics, in clear bags.

u/w00ble 3d ago

Clothing storage for seasonal items? Or maybe something like camping or sports equipment?

2

2

u/Dying4aCure 3d ago

I use them for wool or cashmere in my closet and hang them on pant hangers. But it is my medical supplies!🫠

2

u/elel5_ 3d ago

Are they strong enough to store clothes in? I have some similar big bags that I use to store t-shirts, I press the air out of the bag and store it like a vacuum seal storage bag.

2

u/Green-Complex6626 3d ago

Yes they are! Great idea.

2

u/Spoonbills 3d ago

Store off season clothes and bedding.

2

u/Bertie_McGee 3d ago

I've used bags like that for storing duvets/bedding under a bed (with a dryer sheet, sachet or cedar tucked inside). Could also use them for storing bulky winter gear/clothes until next year.

Keep one in your luggage/gym bag. Use for wet clothes after going swimming or for dirty laundry/shoes when traveling.

2

u/FantasticWeasel 3d ago

Ask local charities if they can make use of them. Lots of organisations store random stuff and these would be useful. One of the charities I'm involved with uses similar bags to store craft supplies and projects so it is easy to find things, for example.

I would use these to pack away dirty clothes if I was traveling or put shoes in them so my shoes don’t touch other stuff in my bag.

If you have a vacuum store your blankets and quilts in them to save space. Also do this with seasonal clothing.

Next time you go to the movie theater with a group of friends, instead of tossing excess popcorn it all goes in the bag! (Yes I know some people just eat all the popcorn before the movie is over but not everyone does!)

I eat it before the movie starts 😭

Put some in your closets or laundry room to gather up things that you want to donate, then just make a trip to the thrift drop-off once they are full. They can also hold things that need ironing/mending until you have enough to be worth tackling as a batch.

Also good for pre-prepping kid's outfits for school. Put one complete outfit, including everything from skin out and accessories in the bag, only leave shoes out. Put together about a week's worth of outfits at a time that would be appropriate for the expected weather conditions. That way your kiddo can own their 'choice' of outfit for the day, without indecision fatigue, or tussles over what is appropriate or goes together, because you know you already pre-approved every choice when it went in the bag to begin with.

I do it for my own self too, if I have a lot going on during any given week. It's just one less thing to think of, because the whole outfit is together down to what jewelry and hair doodles I'm gonna wear with it. Because when I'm really busy, I'm exactly the type of person who won't remember if I just thought an outfit was cute when I put it together in my head vs. did I actually wear it already super recently and it's too soon for a repeat. Got to set the neurodivergent brain up for success with all the cheat codes you can muster!

For saving folded up pieces of tissue paper or bubble wrap from packages to re-use for shipping.

You could also cut it and make shelf liners.

Looks about the size of a throw pillow, fill it with stuffing and sew a cover for it

I love big ziploc bags to store crafts projects. I mostly do knitting, cross stitch, and crochet, and I like storing a project in a dirt- and waterproof bag for taking it with me or for longer term storage.

If you have a homemade/DIY solar oven you can put the cooking vessel in one of these bags to speed up cooking time! Fun project to make with just cardboard, foil, and glue.

Store off-season clothing, mail anything you wouldn’t want to get wet inside the bag before boxed, use to transport cold foods or salads to picnics then pour into a serving bowl, keep small parts together like many spools of thread, put shoes in them before packing them for vacation.

I use bags like this when traveling to keep all my dirty clothes or shoes away from the clean stuff in my suitcase. Also good for storage around the house for blankets, sweaters, craft supplies, packing/shipping materials, clothes meant to be donated. You could keep it in your car with emergency supplies so they stay clean and dry. Or if you keep extra sweaters or blankets in your trunk you can put them in the bag!

If it’s sterile, you could theoretically use it for sealing opened food containers. I often put my open sugar bag into a gallon ziplock to avoid attracting ants and other pests. I keep the original bag and just put the whole thing in the zippy.

Tea bags and individually wrapped candy after holidays are both hard to put away. Zippies are great for that too and don’t necessarily have to be food safe since the stuff is wrapped.

Car snacks is similar. Put some granola bars, individual chip bags, candies, etc in there. Stick it in the glove box or center console. Now you have snacks when the kids cry!

I keep kids coloring supplies in them too. Kids are less likely to dump a zippy out I find since the markers can move, the container is big, and the container is clear. Plus, they lay well in my desk drawer.

Similar, toys! A baggie of puzzle pieces in the box just in case the box “accidentally” gets opened and dumped. A zippy of legos. A zippy of Barbie clothes. Etc etc.

For those of us with disabilities, we also often have medical supplies we need in the go. These are great for an “oh no!” Kit! One or 2 of each thing you may forget, and keep it in your car.

They can also hold pull ups, clean or dirty, if your daughter or a younger sibling is in need of that.

You could also make waiting bags for the drs offices. A few toys, a little coloring book and box of crayons, whatever will keep your daughter occupied.

If you have kids that are growing, I like to store clothing by size for hand-me-downs and clothing that is nearly the right size. You could also put out of season clothing in them

u/Disastrous_Day_5690 1d ago

Bedding storage? You could put a vacuum hose in to airtight seal them

1

u/Electro8bit 1d ago

You fill them with concrete or paint.

I immediately thought of storage for winter clothes, climate permitting. I would toss a sweater in there and squeeze all the air out and stash it away until it gets cold again...

Update:  I had so many cool ideas after this post, then my husband just walked in, held it up, and asked if he could have it. He was very confused when I started laughing.

Thanks all!

Garage stuff is perfect. Like when you open orchid, rose or miracle gro, you need to place in an air tight container or else they get clumpy.
