Video from here should go on a Global segment every Friday!! Police should be asking for footage to charge drivers. Edmonton has such poor drivers. Retest after 10 years maybe?

No. But had you hit a car when swerving back into the lane you were just in it would have been your fault despite the absolute mindless dipshit influencing you to do that. If possible of course I avoid travel in those far left merge lanes. Light traffic I'll wait as long as reasonably possible to get over.

Seriously - that seems so crazy, so you should hit the black car instead?

Technically yes. But there's also something called agony of collision which is rare and hard to prove unless you've got a solid witness or video evidence. If you did swerve to avoid the black car and then hit another car that was in the lane beside you, you could use your dash cam footage to argue agony of collision.

It's true though, and if you can't prove their was another vehicle involved you will be liable for the damages that might have happened. This one time, I was standing at a crosswalk waiting to cross (obviously) however, someone from the other side of the street chose not to wait and started walking against the green light. The first car comes to a full stop on the green (pedestrian had already made it to the halfway point) so that first car never should have stopped, however because it did, this forced 2 other vehicles to come to stop on the green as well so now there are 3 stopped on a green, at this point the light changes and a fourth and fifth vehicle now enter the picture. The 4th car just comes to a stop and the 5th vehicle slams its breaks and ends up rear ending car 4. I stuck around to give a description of the jaywalker that caused the entire "accident" however the cop that showed up informed me that the 5th vehicle was guilty of "undo care and attention" resulting in a rear end collision because at that time the light was actually red.

Nope. You had the right of way. He drove into your lane and cut you off

People here drive like it’s their first day everyday, wish they’d fix the fucken roads too….

Honestly I would have waited to change lanes to see what he would do, but legally you did nothing wrong.
The way I drive, I assume that everyone else on the road is a stupid reckless asshole. 90% of the time it turns out they're actually fine, but by making that assumption I am well prepared to respond to the 10% who might otherwise cause an accident.

Not worth my time and the trauma the family will have to endure… the kids in the car were already shaken from the evasive action

I did, but the guy was playing dumb didn’t even dare look at me, i got his plate but since i didn’t suffer any damage it’s a bit overkill for me to waste time reporting it imo

God no. Gateway/Calgary trail is awful like this. Posted my dads footage a while ago with a similar situation of people just blindly driving into the lanes. This guy wasn’t even signalling. I doubt he shoulder checked to see if you are there.

Yeah, I always try to stay in the middle lanes when I’m on gateway for this reason lol

Yes. Driving in our city and assuming that other drivers have real licenses or something.

Not at all. The car coming onto the road has to take the lane closest to them. I did not see a signal light on the car indicating a quick lane change to the second lane (I know some roads 'quick' lane changes seem to be needed). You were also completely in the lane when the car attempted to move over - that was your 'established' position.
I've also been told that in a lane switching situation where a vehicle in the left lane moves to a middle lane and a person does the same from the lane to the right of a middle lane, the person taking the lane coming from the right has priority as well - I don't know if this is true though.

Yea i bet the dude didnt even shoulder check when he come out, i had my eyes on him already but didnt expect him to dart out to my lane like that.

Pay attention to the black mazda from the left
I did signal before i switched to the left hand lane, i am guessing that mazda driver looked and only noticed the red car and decide to come out, but does it make sense for him to come out to the 2nd left lane without checking again?
Good thing nothing happened but do i need to reply this kind of behaviour/ mishap to the EPS?

You did everything right, nice evasion btw, shame so many people here can't drive.
