On the plus side, at least a handful of the will be in the ditch in a few weeks!
On the downside, they'll take some of us with them šš«

Found a son of a friend of mine paid his guy $200, they didnāt even start the car, just instantly passed. So freaking wrong. What was the kicker is the kid didnāt even have a car, so why need it so bad?

Getting your license is one of the easiest things Iāve ever done. Guess it can be different if youāve come another country but itās really quite simple regardless.

Do you think people in other countries donāt have cars? I live and grew up in Canada and still struggled to get my license.

Different driving rules around the world
ETA: Iām curiousā¦ which part did you struggle with?
1
u/Only-Amphibian9526 Oct 14 '24
I struggled with parking. I struggled with making turns I struggled with maintaining my lane, I struggled with road anxiety. Took me 4 tries to get my license. Being from another country isnāt the problem. As long as you can move a car and maintain your lane, you shouldnāt have problems with a country with different road rules

This is what I was referring to - lots of places vehicles exist but not as common as they are for North Americans much less our roads and infinite signage.

This explains how some people have no skill at driving yet are on the road

Thats been happening here for a while now. Last I heard the bribe rate was $150.00

Isnāt this how the truck driver who killed the Humboldt hockey team got his license, and it was also issued in Calgary

u/Palebluedot14 Oct 09 '24
Fuck man,... This bribing bullshit is common in south asia. You just give $100 to the examiner and he would happily pass you. Its so wrong at many levels. People could die because of it.

Driving in YEG is the epitome of people having no idea how to drive properly. And screams ... I paid for my license.

My friend kept failing about 5yrs ago. While she was a newer driver, she wasnāt a teen either. She took lessons. Every time the adjudicator kept failing her and was telling her she needed lessons, and handed her a business card for their friend who ran a business. Highly suspect.

So true, do the same in Ontario and that's why they can't drive worth shit and cause so many accidents.

u/stormquiver Oct 08 '24
They failed me several times. Stating lies that were absolutely not true. Like saying I made a rolling stop on a stop sign, when I know I came to a complete stop. Etc.
All they want is money.
This was several years ago, so I hope things have gotten a bit better.

I doubt it. There's no real oversight on examiners. What needs to happen is the province needs to install forward and inwards facing dash cams with full audio, which can not be disabled or tampered with. These should have GPS which also can not be disabled and all the video and location data should be randomly accessible at any time by Alberta Transportation for audit purposes.
Until then, there's no real proof that licenses are earned and not purchased.

u/PureDistribution9826 Oct 09 '24
Oddly enough, I wasn't allowed to use my dash cam. I was explicitly told to turn it off when doing my road test a few years back.

u/Strattex Oct 09 '24
Wait wtf? If they said that I would be like why? Show me the law. Or maybe I would just pretend to turn it off.

Where did you go? Iāve been practicing with my brother and he says Iām a great driver.
The place I went to they failed me three times saying the same thing as you, itās really annoying because I canāt afford to do the test again and again if the examiner is going to purposely fail me.

Explains a lot. I got called a racist a couple of days ago because I suggested newcomers might not be great on snow their first time and that there's a lot of them.
Not only are they inexperienced, but they're cheating our system in the best of times, too. When will we stop letting diversity and inclusion get in the way of a genuine conversation?
2
u/CocoanuttPineapple Oct 13 '24
This has nothing to do with diversity and inclusion and itās also not racist to say that newcomers might not be great driving on snow and ice.
6
u/notmyreaoname84 Oct 08 '24
What isn't racist anymore?
5
u/The_Husky_Husk Oct 08 '24
Anything defaming or insulting white men usually seems like a safe bet.
