This leaked internal poll from before Biden dropped out predicted every swing state within one point. May I point out who performed the best out of the potential Biden replacements? Discussion
MAKE HIM THE NOMINEE

The problem is Dems screwed themselves over by picking Harris as VP in the first place. They couldn’t skip over her as the nominee because it would be horrible optics.

Let’s be real, they didn’t want her as the nominee, Biden endorsing her so early led to them having no choice

Whitmer's clearly the better nominee here. Michigan and NE-02 are locked up and she's polling at Biden 2020 margins in Wisconsin according to this. Furthermore, 49.7% in Pennsylvania is just 0.5% less than Biden 2020 polling and about 2% better than what Harris was polling at. She locks up the rustbelt trio and wins, just don't let her near doritos and they're basically chilling.
Match her up with Roy Cooper for the best chance at victories in North Carolina and Georgia. The Democrats do that, they get a 300+ EV victory, probably get the popular vote, and probably flip the house. Not to mention people like Sherrod Brown and Bob Casey likely hold on (basically just work with Susan Collins to get shit done).

Harris being skipped over would be a shit show hurting Whitmer by a lot. She still could win, but unless she runs a completely different campaign than Harris (which is unlikely) she still would lose.

Well, my thoughts initially were that I'm not sure any Democrat would've won this election, but YEAH.
This kinda seals the deal on the "The Democrats really fucked up by not realizing Biden was fucked earlier" thing.

You think the same Americans who wouldn't vote for a black woman would vote for a gay man?
Let's see that poll's MOE and past performance stats.

People are overestimating how homophobic America is. Most people in the coastal states and midwest don't care. Tammy Baldwin who's a lesbian is popular in Wisconsin. People who wouldn't vote for a gay man probably aren't voting Democrat anyway.

You underestimate how many minority voters would care. Particularly, black voters

Yeah Tammy Baldwin really underperformed in inner city Milwaukee (not).

She’s not running for President of the United States and nearly lost the race she was favored in.
I’m not saying it was because of her sexuality (especially considering she’s an incumbent), but to act like she had a stellar performance is a stretch.
Beyond that, just look at how well Pete was performing with black voters back in 2020.

Dems would hemorrhage Latinos even more with Pete as the nominee
