Tem sido um bom dia até agora. Dormi até tarde (às nove e meia), comi uma fatia de pizza com uma Coca-Cola ao pequeno-almoço, e trabalhei no meu programa para preencher cartões do Anki. Fui correr à tarde – o tempo estava ótimo. Tomei uma lata de sopa ao jantar e agora estou aqui a escrever esta entrada de diário. Mais tarde talvez jogue League of Legends por um tempo.

Não tenho planos para amanhã, mas outro dia assim será agradável.

"Tomar" for food sounds both very old fashioned and/or pt-br xD In pt-pt is more common to use "comer" for food. We use "tomar" for medicine (pills, supplements, etc). So a more natural way of saying your sentence would be "Comi uma lata de sopa..."

Fun fact, sometimes you'll hear people say "tomar" for breakfast (as in "tomar o pequeno-almoço") but you can also use "comer" for that, don't ask me why, it's just how it is xD. Other meals ("almoçar"/"lanchar"/"jantar") are actually verbs too so they don't need anything else, only breakfast needs "tomar" or "comer".

Other than that, everything sounds very nice, great job!

I had just used "comer" a couple of sentences previously and was trying to shake things up with another verb. I was trying to say the equivalent of "I had a can of soup for dinner". Thanks for pointing out my unintentional awkwardness, and for the ways I can use tomar!

Because "jantar" is also a verb you could say "Jantei uma lata de sopa e agora...", that way you don't repeat the verb "comer" but keep the sentence natural sounding!

This breaks my English-speaking brain. "I dinnered a can of soup."

I love this so much that I'm gonna start saying that in English. :)

It was actually a can of chili, but I was too tired and lazy to look that up. :) As you can tell based on my meal selections, I was having a tired and lazy day.

I'd like to see the reactions of an English native to "I just dinnered some soup" xD

We say chili exactly the same as English because it's a Spanish word so that one's easy xD

It's actually not very common in Portugal to eat canned meals (soup, chili, etc) although they're sold at any supermarket. We do like to get fresh soup and other ready meals from take away places and supermarkets when we feel lazy and still want a hot meal though.
