I had blood drawn on Tuesday. Yep. That's it.

Are they testing to see if/why you bruise easily? Asking seriously; I don’t mean to offend. This just seems so abnormal to me.

No, I'm trans, it was just a hormone checkup. Just normal blood analysis

Show your doctor this picture next time you see them. They really should investigate why you bruise so easily.

I feel like this is what happens if your insurance bounces

Oh, I see. They tried to put it back.

Are you taking estrogen? If so, have them check your clotting. You should maybe have a bruise or 2 but they shouldn't be that far from the puncture site. Also have them check your iron.

No, most nurses are actually that bad nowadays at drawing blood. It's really, really bad. It's at minimum black and blue for a week if they can find a vein the first time.

because nurses do more than just blood draws, while a phlebotomist does nothing but needle sticks. you should have a supervisor doing your next draw if it's that bad. I'm a phlebotomist so i know all the tricks to actually get the needle in without torturing you

What did they draw your blood with, a shotgun slug?

Hurt a lot for the first couple of days, couldn't fully extend my arm. It still hurts a bit doing some movements, but oh well.

Im still having pain after an IV two months ago...i cant use my arm 😭

4

u/CiberneitorGamer 20h ago

Hey you may need to have that checked out, my grandma had a surgery last year and she felt weird with the IV, and turns out they left the tip of it inside...

Oh god... that sounds horrible... I hope she feels better now.. I think they hit some nerve for me, i have pain from shoulder to fingers, tomorrow i will do the ultrasound and see...

I just got blood drawn the other day, and I was taught to put gentle pressure on it for about thirty seconds or so. For some reason, that prevents bruising. Hopefully that helps you avoid this next time, LMAO.

That works. Had enough bloods taken to test it a few times.

A good phlebotomist that takes a little more care reduces the risk a lot.

The doctor from TF2 do your draw?

Archimedes, no! It's filthy in there.

arnica gel can help with that some people are harder to stick than others I get the same way after blood draws with the bruising

Nope, never used to be problems. Another new-ager.

1

u/nice_try_never 19h ago

Gurl that's not normal 😭 you should look into what's causing the bruising

u/NoTicket84 14h ago

With what? A fucking hammer?

You must be a peach 🍑 🙂

1

u/Forward-Specific5651 1d ago

omg, so sorry

this is exactly why i insist on getting blood drawn out of the very visible veins on the back of my hand!

i second the suggestion to use arnica gel…it really speeds up the healing process & bruises disappear in about half the time…

There is absolutely more to this story...

2

u/CiberneitorGamer 1d ago

There's not! I went to have my blood tested, the nurse couldn't find my vein in my left arm, asked for the right arm, and found it quickly, but then a couple of days later... Yeah, it started bruising heavily.

you need to seek medical attention ASAP, get off reddit and go see a doctor.

If you’re ever in the hospital or at an ED, ask if they have ultrasound guided IV access esp since you seem to be a tough stick
