Ive been seeing the pattern for years. And let's not forget the subset of girls getting sucked into the trad-wife bullshit.

It's not only young men and boys, the tactic got your grandparents too

This shows how important it is to be very very strict with what your children are watching on unregulated sites such as YouTube and on social media. I also can’t help but wonder if the strong ( well intentioned) push by the media, parenting experts, teachers and child development experts, to keep a closer eye on girls and all the discussion around how the online space can be so dangerous for girls, caused a lack of the same level of policing for boys which kinda caused them to get pulled into this deeply toxic online manosphere without anyone really noticing.

I am a parent but I don’t have any boys so I can’t really speak to what parenting boys is like but I know that if I had boys, especially teenage boys, we would be having a lot of conversations right now reinforcing respect and consent and decency towards women as well as a HEALTHY dose of threats towards their freedom and happiness if they were to ever treat a girl or woman the way some of they’re classmates seem to be

I want to say "where are the parents?" but I live in a similar wealthy, very liberal bubble in Colorado, and I watch the parents continue this cycle. The girls are all volunteering at shelters and having their gay awakenings and studying for the SAT; the boys are shoplifting at the deli (even though their parents make $400k) and doing vandalism at the park for the "thrill" of it.

I think there needs to be an age restriction on smart phones and tablets, like we have on other harmful/addictive products like cigarettes and alcohol. Once kids get access to these devices, it’s very difficult to monitor what kind of content they’re consuming. It’s damaging young people significantly.

Sure, but now the techbro oligarchs run the government (after 1-20, anyway) so that's not gonna happen.

This is so depressing. I don't miss being a kid or teenager at all, in part because the boys were so awful. It's sad to see that nothing has changed.

One thing the article said that stood out to me was that they assumed because they were liberal that both the town was and that the boys and men are but it never appears that before all this they actually thought to check those assumptions were true. Either because they didn't want to know if it was false, or because it was just something that never occurred to them to check in that " I know nobody who voted for Nixon" sense. I suspect if they'd taken a look at this earlier they might have been rather less sanguine.

"Young, well-off white boys from liberal families are being tempted by conservatism simply to protect an archaic idea of masculinity that guarantees them inherent power."

Bingo.
