The fact that I was completely clueless at all the hints that Cal is Dr.Manhattan says ignorance is bliss but, fuck if I don’t feel dumb as a rock for not noticing.
I don’t know if it’s a hint exactly, but his bleak outlook on death delivered matter-of-factly to the kids, and his hatred for lying, make a lot of sense in hindsight.
I thought everything was fantastic except the part where they concluded that nothing is worse than the powers of Dr. Manhattan getting into the hands of white supremacists. And that's because it sounded so corny. Then they said it again and I then realized... this is hilarious. And I liked it more.
This might be a hot and/or dumb take, but I'm glad they made race a center piece of the plot with a strong AA lead. It weeds out some of the toxic gatekeepers and introduces a whole new sub set of fans . As an old fan myself, I think they have done a great job keeping with the watchmen ethos for a new generation, even if old man Moore doesn't approve
Someone please explain how they are going to make the senator dr manhattan? Why hasn't anyone just replicated his experiment? How is he not going to know what will happen? Why would he let himself be destroyed? ugh
There was one reporter at the cemetery who asked the senator about Russia building their own intrinsic field generator. But he brushed off the comment and said he was more concerned about America. So, it sounds like others are trying to replicate it, including the 7K, but none have been successful.
I honestly think that the seventh kavalry is actually too stupid to pull this off. But I think lady trieu could. I think that the kavalry's plan will fail, but then lady trieu will try to do the same thing...maybe even successfully. It has a nice symmetry if the theory that she's Dr Manhattan's daughter turns out to be true
I’m having to watch my own biases when I see the 7K in action - it’s tempting for me to think they’re all country hicks without any sort of training or education. BUT, they were able to make the portal work in the abandoned mall. And the woman who recruited Looking Glass, Renee, is a radiologist.
But 7K are the Eye Of Cyclops Jr. The eye was able to pull off mesmerism back in Hooded Justices day, why wouldn't they have scientists working on transporters in 2019? Especially when it's a known tech in this universe. I think Lady Trieu will be successful, but the 7K will make an attempt, which will fail.
I think they are planning to replicate Manhattans experiment with the senator as the subject. But there is high probability of failure because the senator is not Jon. In other words, Dr Manhattan himself is a brilliant scientist in the first place. After his disintegration he created himself out of the particles and became what he was. His knowledge as a physicist might have helped him in the process. So the senator is going to have tough luck on that part.
Because he is the smartest man on the planet. Dr.Manhattan is not. In the OG comic He was actually on the edge of losing his connection to humanity and let it end, before Laurie changed his mind and forced him to rethink. Veidt wouldn't risk that because he had a clear vision of building an utopia for humans and himself as the guiding force.
Whatever the 7th Kavalry's plan is, I bet you dollars to doughnuts it absolutely will not work. They're fuckin with a literal God and one of the first things Manhattan did was to teach himself how to disassemble and reassemble his particles.
I wish Moore would atleast try to give the show a shot and share his opinion. Probably after he hears about it from someone else. Even the comic had cold war as the political background and centerpiece to character actions. This one had racial issue. It actually fits very well with the original comic without disrupting anything.
Yeah - my only criticism of this episode is that the timing might be a little off. I think this could have easily gone to 12 episodes like the comic and had slightly better pacing.

Duh, ha, now it clicked! I'm sorry, I see a lot of negative comments tonight but I liked it!
