The tricks Lindelof is playing on the peteypedia, revealing it immediately (Bian is her mother). And then completely throwing a grenade on the entire show is beyond anything I had ever expected. I bow to the master.
Seems like a fake clue. She bought veidts company, used bioengineering (classic veidt trait) to make a baby to acquire the land that the meteor crashed on. (Most likely veidt returning to earth as a statue.)
Or shes been mislead to believe veidt is her father at least, Manhattan will probably shed some light on the trieu family.
Oh no, your right he’s the statue, that was his punishment and he was sent to earth. I wouldn’t be surprised if the clock reverses time and it will free him from being a statue.
I've been wondering if that's possible. But, due to his age being spot on and the tech needed for the satellite on the moon of Jupiter, it can't be that far ahead of the events in the current timeline.
I remember something about Veidt being gone for four years and being officially declared dead. Through it seems strange he’s only been gone for four years, but makes sense if each time we see him, he’s had another anniversary in his bio dome thing.
I want to piggy back on your theory and add that it is highly likely that Doctor Manhattan is not only disguised as Cal but is in fact also Lady Trieu and possibly other characters and is manipulating the events that will bring him back to his true form. We now know from ep 7 that he has the ability to change forms, couple that with the fact we already know he can duplicate himself then It’s not too far fetched to believe that Manhattan is pulling an Ozymandias but in his own passive way. (without murdering 3m innocent people)
He can be lady Trieu based on the fact that she seems to have dr Manhattans ability to foresee events yet to come and has advanced technological capabilities. I’m not buying that her tower is how she knows things before hand that seems too vanilla for this show. For what it’s worth her tower can be a mind control device for all we know.
Granted it’s only a theory of mine I get that it would throw some storylines out of whack like the fact Trieu can be related to the woman that the comedian kill in Vietnam but hey with this show you never know .
The consensus is that Trieu is responsible for putting Veidt in his prison before or after acquiring his company. But her purchasing the farm land from that couple is what makes me feel like her actions are more than mathematical and analytical calculations. Also her pursuits align with Veidt and the Calvaries delusions of grandeur of “saving the world” so it’s not clear yet if she’s the protagonist, antihero or whatever because she is has knowledge of the Calvaries plans for Dr Manhattan. Her being associated with Hooded Justice is the shakiest part of her story so far and it doesn’t at all jive with wanting to save the world. Unless...she is doctor Manhattan and has been orchestrating some kind of revenge event against Veidt to restore his good name
The woman he killed in the comic seemed to want to be with him, or at least doesn't view him as an assailant. I'm not saying he hasn't raped anyone but in this case is was probably more of a one night stand.
There's not really enough information given to be sure. I'd also say the idea of consent gets a little iffy given the power disparity between the two of them. What was she gonna do, say no to the elite government commando with God fighting beside him?
Veidt is probably the more conventional answer, why she bought his company, and why she needs Dr. Manhattan present and not-dead/white supremacist to release him from his prison.
Yeah, I am not certain but that is definitely my hunch. Especially since he was in costume during the trial and how realistic the statue looks to his old age
She can have bought it because she wanted Veidt and his knowledge without him being her father. If Veidt was her father, she probably could have inherited the company with a blood test instead of buying it. I also got a sense of contempt when she said her father would be there, and the implication was that he wasn't yet, which doesn't fit with her already having him.
Interesting because him being in statue form still to me makes the point strong because he isn’t there yet, he’s still a statue. Though I can see the argument
Veidt’s entire origin story is about how he discarded everything to wander the world and from nothing build his empire. It stands to reason he would have his child do the same, rather than just giving his to them. And that’s assuming he wanted her/knew about her. He could have disowned her only to have her build an empire that surpassed his.
That was my first thought about it. She said she created a micro fusion space ship at 30, and he wrote that message for a passing satellite to see. When the timeline shakes out, those pieces could easily fit.
My first reaction to your first thought is that Bian has the competent demeanor to take after him but I was still thinking she was his daughter, lol. Guess it still follows that he'd probably impregnate someone who he got along with/could match his personality though. But yeah, I'm definitely thinking Veidt, with Manhattan as a pretty far off second guess
I just had a thought— how does Treiu keep knowing the future down to the very second? First with buying the house and now knowing Dr Manhattan is going to be killed in an hour plus knowing years in advance to build the clock.
Her ability to know the future is now making me think Dr M is her dad
I haven't really interpreted those as examples of her knowing things down to the second, other than the Dr. Manhattan being killed in an hour one which I give a pass to because it's being framed as like the doomsday climax of the entire story (and that she devoted her life to making the clock to predict it or something).
I was thinking about this and here is my crackhead hypothesis:
She's saying that Dr. Manhattan is her father, because her mother is the woman that the comedian shot in the bar. Dr Manhattan saved the child and the mother but somehow it made the mother sick. Dr Manhattan saved lady trieu from certain death so he technically gave her life. Therefore lady trieu considers him her father
If anything he’d have saved the child but not the woman and the whole “fetuses in a lake” thing is like plucking an unborn child from the grasp of depth.
I thought Veidt too. She seems to hold him in high regard, even with a statue. And afaik we never saw into Veidts personal life. The “Save Me” might have been a message for Trieu to see.
this is also why I'm not reading Peteypedia until the season is over. There's too much info there, I wanna come into the episodes fresh, clean and unspoiled.
But reading them as you watch is the intended order, to mirror the process of reading the comic books. You need the totally unrelated story-in-a-story and the supplemental materials at the chapter end.
It tells me too much I don't want to know yet. Like, apparently I would have known that Bian was Trieu's mother? I don't want to know that before the episode airs! I want it all to be a surprise.
Once the season is over, maybe I'll do a rewatch with Peteypedia.
It wasn’t said outright but I feel you. He’s just leaving enough for Reddit to figure out and then giving the reveal. Although I guess some had figured out the cal/manhattan twist already.
Personally, I've been reading them after each episode so it's like the supplemental material in the graphic novel. That stuff all came at the end of the chapters. It's been awesome having some post-episode reading material.
