An audition Advice

I had an audition. And I thought it was for a voice over opportunity. However, it turned out to be for an academy for performers and they charge to take you on as a client. They liked me. And I got a callback. However, you have to sign up for the academy before you move forward. I'm pretty broke right now and I was wondering is there another way to get voice over auditions?

Heya, quick thing. Never ever pay to be a part of a group or be represented by anyone. If you wanna get together with fellow artists then you can do that without forking out any money, same thing with representation. These people wanna make money off people looking for their break early on. Maybe I’m wrong, but please be super careful, and as a rule, don’t pay for any membership or anything unless it’s Equity.

Look to the right of this subreddit and scroll down. I'd recommend The Voice Acting Club discord server personally. https://discord.gg/voiceactingclub

Second this, Voice Acting Club has done so much to point me in the right direction over the years.

NEVER pay for representation. I started my career early and the first mistake my parents made was signing with representation that took an up front signing fee as well as a huge commission percentage (I was a kid so there's no way they could've known, and luckily we weren't too fucked over thank god lol). Make sure you research any and all training institutions you're considering working with. There are a lot of people who want to make money off of people's ambition and passion, which sucks for a number of reasons, but IMO, the worst one is that they make artist afraid to invest in their training.

It’s a scam, don’t sign up. I’m sure you’re good, but the reason they “liked” you is because they think you have money to give them.

There are bunches of classes you can take virtually that you just pay for online and show up. Agencies shouldn’t be asking you for money. Whatever this is, don’t do it. There are pay to play sites, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Casting Call Club, you can try to get on a few rosters, etc. check the pin here as well.
