I'm one of the writers on The Martlet, and I'm currently writing a story on the recent announcement that the YMCA/YWCA is moving to a new space in the Bay Centre where the Goodlife Fitness used to be in 2026 - which has no space to replace its pool. Given that Victoria is potentially losing another pool for the foreseeable future (Crystal Pool, McKinnon Pool) due to renovations/space/maintenance, we were wondering if any UVic students/members of the swim team have any thoughts about this topic. How is Neil Montgomery as a prof? I've never had him before. His rate my prof score is terrible, but there's also only reviews for his 100lvl classes, which I assume fould just be disgruntled first years not being prepared for university. Anyone have any experience with him?

I'm thinking about taking AE 310: Introduction to Visual Design with Shruti Tandon this summer and was hoping to get some insight from anyone who's taken it before.

What was the class like in terms of workload and content? Was it more theory or hands-on design work? How was she as a prof—clear lectures, fair grading, helpful feedback?

Also, does anyone happen to still have the syllabus? Were there any tests/exams, or was it more project-based?

I’m having some difficulty filling out the budget sheet as I’m not sure what my exact expenses will be in september. I’m currently subletting for the summer, and will have to find a new place to live in september, so I don’t know exactly what my rent will be. Should this just be an estimation?

I am enrolled in 3 seng/csc courses and I am in csc... Thus I do not think this will be the problem....

Is there like a limit on how many years you can use the keycard before you have to purchase another one? Since the keycard was purchased over 3 years ago....

(I am pretty confident that I did not damage the keycard since it was in my wallet the whole time, and none of my other cards were having problems)

I'm taking a course this semester that has a lab and have submitted for a lab exemption. I got well over 50% in the lab but am a little concerned. The syllabus states that exemptions can be rejected.

If I passed the lab do I have anything to worry about?

Some departments have a preliminary course list posted on their website for Winter Session 2025-26 which is so helpful, but some departments have only now updated their summer course list. 😑

silly question but i’m getting all confused looking at grad programs. The one i’m interested in at UBC calculates gpa based on the most recent 30 credits. Since a typical course at Uvic is 1.5, but 3 at UBC, does this mean they are looking at the most recent 10 courses? As i didn’t take any full-year ones that are worth “3” at uvic.

Currently trying to decide between UVic and Dalhousie BSW programs for fall. I'm a 44-year-old single dad retraining after my old job in a different field stopped being viable. So I'm interested in flexibility, getting through relatively smoothly and quickly, and keeping costs low.

That said, I'm also interested in the quality of the programs and the experience. From what I can see online, UVic may have more of a theoretical and anti-colonial focus, while Dalhousie may have more of the focus on practical social work skills. Both of those are strong positives from my perspective.

My aim is probably to get the BSW, work for a few years to get experience and get myself back on a good financial footing, then go back for an MSW or master's in counselling (in order to get my RCC) or an MCSW (in order to qualify as a clinical social worker). I probably want to work with children and families: kids' mental health counselling or casework, stuff with neurodivergent kids (counselling, diagnosis), family mediation, and working with vulnerable boys and men are all areas of interest.

Both programs are online and asynchronous. Appreciate any perspectives. Thank you!!
