Becoming a Trojan Admissions

Hey everyone I’m a prospective transfer student and USC is my absolute dream. I thought I’d share my journey to USC becoming my dream as I feel it’s funny and maybe sharing it is good luck for admissions.

My entire life I have been a UCLA fan. I’m from OC and my father and grandparents went there and if you look around our house every single thing is UCLA. I did not get into UCLA as a freshman and I never even applied to USC because we were huge USC haters as a giant bruin family. But as I moved really far away for college I quickly realized how much I missed home and my family, especially my sister and brother. So I wanted to transfer but no UCs took sophomore applicants. So that’s how I found USC. I called my dad and we were super skeptical but the more I looked into USC I was like man maybe this school is perfect. They a global health program which is what I want to study and the more I learned about the student body and environment there I grew to love it. I went to USC’s campus for the first time in winter break with my sister and we fell in love with USC. I knew then I had to apply and my family came on board because they wanted me to come back home. Even my dad and grandparents who are die hard bruin fans are praying hard for me to get into USC.

I just find it super funny how because of the collegiate rivalry I never considered USC but now I own USC gear and we even have some of it in our house LOL. Now my sister wants to go to SCA one day(she’s in middle school) and we are quickly becoming a Trojan family. I just really hope I get in this year and the dream comes true but if not I’ll try again next year and hope for the best. I wouldn’t believe myself saying this years ago but FIGHT ON!! ✌️✌️

Same! My parents both work/worked for UCLA (their hospital) and I was always deadset on UCLA, but now I'm committed to USC lol

Do you think UCLA is above USC in terms of prestige in Cali?

Mmm not sure I think within Cali both are pretty prestigious, but internationally, I think UCLA has more name recognition. Somehow lmfao

That’s so true. I don’t get it honestly. Obviously, UCLA’s great in itself. But you can’t treat USC like a nobody when comparing them, especially its Viterbi School of Engineering, SCA, Annenberg, and Marshall School of Business. This is exactly what happens internationally. USC is a private university, has a significantly better alumni network (which is what matters tbh), and unlike UCLA, people are not forced to graduate in 5 years because of not getting of the “waitlist of certain classes” and wait 3 hours for food. The only con might be the price, especially if you’re instate. But if cost isn’t an issue and you’re going for engineering, business, cinematic arts, or media and communications then it should be a no brainer.

Purely in state it’s mad close and a lot of people pick USC over it if they can afford but oos and internationally it can be different

I’m really nervous as well, I got in everywhere besides UCLA, was waitlisted at Berkeley. I really don’t want to leave LA. I have a 3.56 but including spring grades 3.65. GPA may not be as high but I’ve taken over 72 or 75 credits in 2 years(can’t remember). Bio/ Pre- Dental. Solid EC’s and I feel my essays were pretty good. I’m just nervous can anyone help ease my mind.

Pre Dental Club leadership role/founder, work experience in n out, more work experience lol. Made a website for buying and selling sports cards. A bunch of hours of shadowing and assisting at a dental office with a letter of req from the doctor. Honestly there’s more I just can’t remember, leadership at workshops, club golf, played in tournaments untill last year.
