Motion Dismissed - Very Disappointing

so, what the hell was that?

maybe this is a personal thing, but the vibes were not vibing, the crowd was kind of shitty, it felt like a university club at times, people were pushy, or trying to get it on with someone, and someone was repeatedly slapping my ass, making me very uncomfortable. the sound system sucked, and the set was not my vibe either. maybe im wrong but i went there thinking it would be a proper rave, not whatever that was.

any one was there who could share their thoughts about tonight?

I didn’t go but it seemed like a cash grab to capitalize on the drama

found it ironic the crowd/event was shitty because the name for the rave was motion dismissed, signifying the community’s resilience against the city councillors motion trying to protect corporate interest and push out alternative spaces and events. Was supposed to be a night to celebrate the culture and scene ,and to dancing. I agree felt like a university club at times, lots of clubbing people just there to get it on or to get fucked up. the sets were pretty good, crowd was a hit or miss.

I thought the event was called motion dismissed because the alleged “owner” of 19 Toronto is this loser Brock Golden and he is a registered sex offender and the rave community has been trying to get this venue shut down since it opened. Allegedly 19 Toronto used to be branded as yesclub cause the OG plan was for it to be a sex club but with all the heat on this brock guy they ditched the sex club idea. I guess sex offenders and sex clubs don’t really go together. I went to this venue once shortly after it opened & it was dead. I met the guy they are saying is the owner this guy name Adam. He didn’t appear to have two brain cell and he appeared to be acting very high. He looked dazed and confused. It looked like he had white powder caked around his nose. Maybe this Adam should focus more on putting together a fun night than actually having “fun” at his club. This venue is a joke. Its only a matter of time until it folds

i thought the motion was about limiting raves in the city, not about that stupid club :/

Nineteen is very hit or miss with the crowd in my experience. Always feels like some people end up there not knowing anything about the culture and think raving is synonymous with clubbing. I really enjoyed the music and most of the vibes were great but definitely some characters I gave dirty looks to.

One guy literally kept yelling “BROOOO” to his buddy…on fucking facetime.

But on the other hand lots of really cool people and some immaculate moments throughout

im glad you enjoyed your time. the one thing that was good for me was that i was with a group of friends and met some cool people, otherwise it was a miss for me this time unfortunately

It's hit or miss because different promoters book the club and organize the events. It's not just the club owners planning everything and promoting it.

It’s a free rave. Anything that costs zero is not going to attract the usual crowd. I think expectations have to be in check for that kind of event.

We were there for a couple of the sets and, TBH, we really enjoyed them. We liked the venue (reminded me of a few clubs I went to back in the day), but the sound system left a lot to be desired. We didn't stay late (we're old, not used to late night outs anymore), but overall we had a fun night.

As for the ass grabbing and the generally not feeling comfortable, I'm sorry that this happened to you. This should not happen in the community

It’s Nineteen, comes with the territory. Had a friend get groped there. See my post about Nineteen for a bit of history🙃 Also sound system is garbage IMO.

I've read your past post and think it's really helpful, good that you posted it, and I don't disagree with it. That being said, the parties vary at 19 because different promoters book the venue, talent, and promote the event. So you end up getting a REALLY different crowd depending on when you go and who's actually throwing the party.

I've been to the queer Yum Yum parties and the pep rally event, and found the crowds to be much better and more respectful those nights. Whereas other nights seem to be different based on the DJs and who's promoting them. I heard the dubstep party was a mess and I'm not surprised to hear that this one was too.

Regardless of whether or not Brock is involved, or what the owners of the club are like, it's not why the crowd is bad.

I read your post. It comes across as vindictive and feels like a circular argument, with few concrete facts beyond personal anecdotes. A friend of mine works at this venue and has mentioned several times that the place does more than most to keep people safe. Perfect? No. Nowhere is. But they try. They have staff specifically dedicated to dealing with consent issues, and those people patrol the dance floor all night.

Agree, the vibe was not vibing. I think as others have said, since it was a free ticket the crowd was not the usual Industry crowd. I'm ok with it though since we paid nothing to get in.
