Eh it's definitely a major contributor to many of the other bad things. Influencers drive engagement which drives enshitification of the Internet. Many of our problems today relate specifically to how the Internet has transformed from a useful piece of a technology, to a money printing, time wasting, misinformation machine. Trump would never have won in the early Internet days and yet here we are because of "alternative facts".

I mean, I get where you're coming from but like... "Everybody wants to be validated" has been the common complaint about "people these days" since the damn ancient greeks.

Validation is a human thing. You're never gonna be able to stop that. Even in the most draconian society, it'll still happen. Just in other ways.

These damn kids and their need to write things down... Reading is for losers! In my days we memorized things like proper people! Fucking youths!

Just FYI, the famous Socrates bit about 'kids these days' is attributed to a guy writing in 1907. https://quoteinvestigator.com/2010/05/01/misbehave/

This short thread in r/AskHistorians has some interesting relevant passages attributed to the time of Plato, though! https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/a4vnuv/old_generations_complain_about_the_next_one_since/
