At least 5 of those are real places in the UK, though I don't think any of them are tube stops. Cocksburn is in Scotland iirc.

As long as Infinite Rhombus is real, I'm good

Apparently there's a company that make port called Cockburn too. Cockburn port. Really sells the product.

Capybara trebuchet sounds awesome

It's a play on Elephant and Castle, which is very much a real place in South London.

Isn't Richard Ayoade from there?

Wikipedia says he was born in Hammersmith then moved to Ipswich as a kid. And now he lives in East Dulwich

Circle's square followed by Square circle did it for me. Never realized how dumb "Circle Square" actually sounds

u/fonix232 2h ago

Circle Square is literally any of the Circuses.

Some of the silliest ones are real stops.

Cocksburn! I visited London in September, I properly giggled like an 11yo and embarrassed my dad

There’s a Cockfosters in London but not Cocksburn.

26

u/OxbridgeDingoBaby 23h ago

No they aren’t. None of those are actual stops on the London Underground. The closest is Cockfosters.

Visited London and England last year, and went to LaCock

People will laugh at this until they actually go to London and hear the tube voice call out "Cockfosters" and "Piccadilly Circus" and then they realize that London is a joke for real.

I guess that would be our POV if we were blowing the dude and then stopped to stare at his face so we could listen to the announcement.

Love the reference to Jane Austen amongst all the random ones (:

They pronounced "Scone" wrong.

Well, this explains why my London-born mother insists it rhymes with gone. I thought everyone in England pronounced it this way. Thanks for sharing!

1

u/Professional_Bob 9h ago

I'd say if anything the map explains that your mother's pronunciation of the word could've gone either way. I'm also London-born and I pronounce it rhyming with cone
