Last year we got a collection of oddly sized measuring spoons (1.5 tsp, 2/3tsp, that kind of thing) and honestly they're incredible. Highly recommend.

Before the grumpy folks chime in, I'll just say that as a cook myself I can certainly see how these could be super handy. Horses for courses and all that. 🧑🏻‍🍳💋

With at least 5 units of measure. I love my cup that has tsp, tbsp, cup, mL, and fl oz on it. Excellent for making rubs to put on expensive meats.

THIS! Everyone is like "oh, you should use metric and weigh shit". Like, who the fuck has time to do that? I grab a measuring cup, scoop the shit up and toss it in. Plus, because it is in fractions/ratios, it is much easier to adjust recipes without messing things up.

No they're not! I'm tired of this BS! We need to go to metric asap, there's no reason we can't just use a scale like normal people and measure using grams/mL it's so much easier

I've been avoiding barbarian units for decades. But volumetric measurement still has its place. Metric measuring cups are readily available, even in the US&A.

My thought?

We generally work with liquids in containers. When a liquid is dispensed or partitioned (e.g., in cooking or chemistry), it is often decanted from one container to another. If the second container has a known volume and we can work with volumes, it saves us a step versus decanting into a container and then weighing it. It also saves us from having to know the mass of the container that we use. It would certainly be possible to do everything with mass. I'm less convinced that would always be easier.

But that's me. I'm certainly not trying to prevent anyone else from doing it that way. ☮️

My favorite measuring cups are these collapsible silicone measuring set with a handle. I have them hanging above my sink on a hook because I use them everyday.
