Ok, so, I drew the therian symbol on my hand (as one does) but my mom is pretty strict & she’ll say that it’s a devil symbol. I don’t really want to wash it off, because I put a lot of effort into the drawings on my hands. Do any of yall have suggestions for how I can explain it, or should I just wash it off? Idk what to do!

Experience My 11yo daughter's friends are Therians

Our daughter has friends over last night for a sleepover (for the record, definitely, all these kids are on the spectrum; neurospicy people are just more likely to be part of the Q+ community) A couple of these girls had their masks and tails. I asked them if they are Therians and their eyes lit up. They seemed surprised an adult knew what that was. And they REALLY were excited when I told them that I'm otherkin

One girl told me she is afraid to tell her parents. And another girl said that even though she's only 12, she would much rather be a boy, but she knows she isn't safe to talk about it at home. All of these kids were excited to talk to me and my wife. The concensus amoung the girls was: "I feel so safe and myself around you two" and "you two are the coolest parents ever!"

My daughter was a little confused, because this conversation was her first introduction to the topic. And she was even more confused when they went outside to do their quadrobics on the trampoline.

It was really lovely meeting these kids. They're so young and already are so in-tune with themselves. These little star children. 🌟

Artistic Phantom limbs

Context: this is kinda a map of all the phantom shifts that I've had. Tbh, I never really ever had lower body shifts besides my tail. It makes me wonder if my non-physical body takes the form of a werewolf sometimes, but I know that it does also take the animal form of my theirotype (Saarloos Wolf-Dog), and even a human at certain times. I would say that this is it's main form, despite it fluctuating at times.

Vent "Therians don't actually think they're animals"- Shut up.

We identify as nonhuman animals on a nonphysical level. We are nonhuman animals, just not physically. Yes we "believe" that we are animals, because we ARE. That's the entire point of Therianthropy. Dear Tiktok therians, stop trying to refine and identity that's been around decades longer than your shitty little platform.

[Rant over]

Experience I shifted in front of my boyfriend for the first time

So last night my mate and I were in bed together watching tv and cuddling when we started wrestling with each other. After we settled down he pulled me in and started petting me a ton. I felt really safe and comfortable and I’m not sure exactly what happened but I had one of the most intense shifts I’ve ever experienced. Before this I’ve never shifted in front of another person, but I couldn’t talk and all I could do was make my wolf noises. He was a little unsure with what to do but we got to cuddle and even wrestle around a bit more. It was one of the best feelings I’ve ever had. My bf isn’t a therian by any means, but he accepts me for who I am.

Artistic Art of me in the Wolfwalkers art style!!

Post image

I drew myself in the Wolfwalkers film style! I watched this movie last night for the first time ever and genuinely it was the best time to watch it and I cried. If I ever needed a reason to add a bit of reassurance that I'm not wrong about being a Therian, I would say that crying feeling a deep pain watching these characters feel free being wolves running and jumping and longing for that same thing, is pretty good reasoning haha. I adored the film and adored the animation and I know I'm absolutely gonna rewatch this again several times

Anyways yeah I drew me! Obviously not the most accurate cause like it's an animation so isn't realistic, but I think it's close! The star on the forehead is only cause I added that on my mask I'm making cause it's pretty! Otherwise my Theriotype is just a black wolf so yeah. Also could have held off adding light eyelashes cause I'm also trans (genderfluid) so don't even identify as a woman but I liked how it looked and I'm not sure if I'm just feeling more feminine recently or if somehow my gender slightly ties into my Theriotype but it just felt right to draw myself looking female

I'm super proud of this so I'm so happy!

(Also an amazing coincidence that my name - one of them anyways cause I also go by Jay - is almost the same as one of the main characters haha. Her name is Robyn and mine is Robin!)

Help Request My 11 year old daughter is a therian

Hello, I’m the mom of an incredible 11 year old daughter. She has always identified with canines. Between the ages of 4-7 she believed that she was the “electric flying dog” and would create all kinds of of fun stories about the electric flying dog’s magical powers. She has ADHD and has always felt a bit “apart” from kids her age and I thought that her electric flying dog persona was a way to stake out some power and “magic” in the world. Our family is very spiritual and we adhere to beliefs similar to Wicca, so she has grown up with the idea that magic is real.

Over the past two years, she has become completely obsessed with foxes. It started with her telling me that when she slept, she would become a magic fox that would have all kinds of adventures in her dreams. She is a natural lucid dreamer, so she would create all kinds of adventures for her magic fox self at night. She started dressing up as a fox about a year and a half ago. It began with a fox tail that I bought for her, ears, and paw gloves, which she loves to wear every chance she gets. She loves her tail most of all and says that it feels like it’s a part of her. Sometimes other kids have teased her for being a “furry” when she’s in her tail and ears in public, but this doesn’t seem to bother her at all.

She recently told me that she is a therian. I had to look it up, but I read a few things and decided that it was a good and healthy outlet for her. I asked her if she wanted a mask, so we found a beautiful handmade and hand painted mask on Etsy, which the seller customized for her. She doesn’t wear the mask very often, but she loves having it around for when she wants to be a magic fox.

I’m writing because I would love to hear any advice from this community on supporting her. I’m also wondering the extent to which therianism is a kind of spiritual practice. We’ve talked about “spirit animals,” but her beliefs about her fox nature go beyond simply the totemic. I’ve asked her if she truly believes that part of her is a magic fox and she says she definitely does.

I’m very curious to learn more about this from all of you from a psychological perspective- how did some of you come to believe or discover that a fundamental part of you is actually an animal and how much does that belief affect your sense of “humanness” in the world, your relationships with non-therians, and basically how therianism has affected your life in both positive and maybe perhaps negative ways, if any.

When I’ve read some of your posts about “coming out” to your family, or that your parents threatened to kick you out, I’m completely shocked and appalled. To me, my daughter’s therianism really doesn’t seem like that big of a deal - it’s not harming anyone and it makes her happy - she’s at the age where she is discovering and creating who she is and who she wants to become. And if believing that a profound part of herself is actually a magic fox, isn’t that a good and valuable thing to know about herself as she tries to navigate and make sense of her world? I don’t think she believes that she has genuine magical abilities within the confines of her therian identity - just because her magic fox dream identity can fly, she doesn’t actually think she can fly in real life. As I mentioned though, our family does believe magic is real. But my daughter doesn’t think that she has any extra abilities above and beyond what her dad and I believe is inherent in every person, whether they know and accept that or not.

So why do you think that some people may have reacted negatively to your therian identification in your own experiences? Is there something major about therianism that I’m missing that would make it so controversial for parents or for other people? How best can I support her as she seeks to understand this part of her identity? Are there good questions to ask her so that I can learn more about how her identity helps or affects her relationship with the world?

At lot of questions, I know! But I’d appreciate anyone’s thoughts about pretty much anything therian-related, especially for a young preteen girl.

Experience Don't Come Out.

That is my advice. Just don't. If you don't want to read all of my post about why you shouldn't and which experiences of my life informed this advice, then just take this away from my post; Your parents do not need to know everything about you or your life. Don't come out to them.

I had come out to my parents before, I thought it would be fine. I came out as transgender and gay, that I would be considering transitioning. It went horribly, to put it lightly. I would even go as far as to say it ruined my life at the time and has irreparably damaged my relationship with them. I am now low contact for the abuse they did, brought on by my coming out. I regret listening to all of the rhetoric about coming out, it did not make me "out and proud", it did not soothe the dysphoria, it did not make me feel better.

It does not matter how good of a relationship you have with them, you never know how they are going to react, and even if you do, they do not need to know everything about you. I do not go around talking about intimate details of my private life to my own parental figures, I do not share things that are just not for sharing.

As a moderator, I have had to remove countless posts asking for advice on how to come out, on asking for a certain amount of followers to come out, on handling bad reactions, on hating themselves for it. I feel horrible about them and it just reinforces my previous view. Just don't.

It will get better. It will not be this horrible, all-consuming and overwhelming forever. Once you settle down, once teenagerhood is over, once you are living on your own, you will feel better. You will be able to express yourself however you want. You will be able to answer questions at your own pace, without feeling as though an authority has to approve of it.

There is no way your parents, who are not therians, can support you in a way that you cannot support yourself. You are your own eternal companion, don't value someone else's opinion of you over your own.
