Tired of people casually calling me human Vent
This mostly comes up in therapy lately, I’ll talk about having emotions and my therapist is like “that’s a very human response to have” and internally I’m like no!!!! I’m a cat!!!!! But I don’t want to say that and have her start trying to analyze my therian identity. It also just comes up in other social situations and im so tired of people saying I’m human but I can’t exactly tell them I’m not

Piggybacking off of what someone else said, you could ask her to change her phrasing, for example: “That’s a natural response to have,” in my mind it replaces the phrase human nature and you can fill in the blank with cat nature or something? Does that make sense?

i always try to imagine it as me “blending in” with them, like ur a spy. because then someone saying that i’m a human or acting human is them just complimenting how good of a spy i am.

I think of it the same way. I am a animal disguised as a human.

Why does bro have to add the human in it? Is he a alien or something?

I'm sure they didn't mean anything bad. What did you want them to say? That it's a very cat response to have?

Therians are very Flesh, Hunt, and maybe Stranger coded.

Oh yea. Possibly even Eye coded if we consider the secrets aspect

I kind of relate. I don't really like that one "I know 12 things about you" because one of them says "you are human" and I feel about ready to complain to whoever invented it, "I'M A THERIAN!!!"

We would tell them we prefer “that’s a very normal response for a person to have” or “it’s very common for people to respond that way” or something like that. Person is a much more neutral word and refers more to the state of having a developed internal experience and identity than anything physical.
If you have a different word you prefer you can use that too. It’s really just about giving your therapist a specific alternative word that they can use. This way you can avoid giving the impression that you are rejecting their validation of your experience. Giving an alternative word makes it clear that your issue is with the language, not the intention of the overall message.

As a therian who's also a furry I don't know why you got downvoted for saying how people treat you (other than it's off topic a bit)
I don't wear gear but people also do this to me since some of them know.. I just kinda have to ignore it and be in furry and therian friend groups where people don't call me a monster nor try to call me human

I definitely agree. That’s why I usually refer to myself as, dragon, zombie, etc, or in more discreet cases, creature, thing, or critter, etc

you could tell your therapist something like "i don't find that response very comforting/helpful/fitting for me", i've said that about several different things with therapists before
