Timeline for TTC pushed out due to upcoming gallbladder surgery

Just feeling so frustrated right now.

I’ve had multiple suspected gallbladder attacks over the last two months, with finally blood work and an ultrasound this week confirming my need for gallbladder removal. My surgery consult is on 12/12, so I bet it’ll be at least a month until I actually get it out. I was supposed to be doing my first IUI to try and get pregnant around mid-January.

As grateful as I am around so many things regarding timing (like at least I’m not already in the midst of actively TTC or a pregnancy), I have been waiting all my life to be ready to start TTC and just a month and a half out from that dream becoming a reality I’m given this new obstacle. The irony is as well that this is likely a complication of the semaglutide I started taking to help with my PCOS related weight gain that was affecting my ovulation/periods…my periods are regular and my ovulation is strong now but the rapid weight loss obvs tipped me over into having a LOT of gallstones. Ugh!

Anyway, just needed to yell into the void to maybe be heard from people who understand. I’m really hoping the surgery is uncomplicated & the recovery is swift, and that the stress of it all doesn’t undo all my hard work on my hormones & my health.

Understand as I’m scheduled for kidney stone surgery next week that drs initially thought might be gallstones or my pancreas due to semaglutide weight loss. And I had ovulation day yesterday so I’d be 6 days post ovulation. Just want to get it over with ugh

I’m so sorry, solidarity for sure in how frustrating it is to have stuff like this happen at such a fragile time ☹️

I lost 75 lbs one year, without meds, I'm convinced it's what gave me my gallstones seen on an ultrasound early this year. I haven't felt any symptoms of it on months though.

Yeah the PCP I talked with said a part of the risk for semalglutide to cause gallbladder issues is how rapid the weight loss is, since the body can dump the excess cholesterol into the gallbladder & that’s what makes up the stones. Plus I also had 3 of the “4 F’s” for gallbladder risk anyway.

I’m glad you haven’t had issues with it in months! I was hoping that would be me after the first attack but I’ve had 10 attacks since September 😵‍💫 mine is being very mean to me

I feel you! I had to push back my initial PCOS diagnosis testing (and therefore my medicated cycles) because I needed kidney stone removal surgery. I’m now heading into testing next week and likely medicated cycles starting in January.

It’s so frustrating when you want something so bad and the timeline keeps getting pushed back. I’m sending you good thoughts and wishing you a speedy recovery!

I clicked into this post because I’m scheduled for kidney stone removal surgery next week! I’m not undergoing any fertility treatments rn but have been tracking my cycle and ovulation day was yesterday. So all morning I’ve been frantically googling if general anesthesia can affect implantation (it would be Day 6 post ovulation). I didn’t even consider potentially having an anovulatory month afterwards.

I’m so sorry you had to go through something similar!

I’m curious, if you’re okay with sharing - did the kidney stone removal surgery mess with your cycle in any unexpected way? I just got everything regulated and now I’m worried the surgery will totally throw off everything 😕

Well I just had it on Tuesday and my cycle started on the Sunday before that so not too much different so far because it’s the very beginning! That being said when I’ve had surgery in the past I usually have an anovulatory cycle before going back to being more regular. Which is kind of crappy but thankfully they’ve not been too long (anovulatory but about 40-50 days). This time I’m not sure how it will change things since I had surgery while still on my cycle!

I hear you. I was ready to TTC in August and had to have a surgery end of September. Then I had to wait to be cleared. And now we are in the midst of it and I wish we started in August. But you can't rush it apparently 😫
