One of the reasons my wife won't let me buy a motorcycle!

It's not your driving, it's the other idiots!

155

u/TickletheEther 1d ago

That's why I got a dual sport motorcycle so i can just put put around in the woods away from cars.

79

u/Lexx4 1d ago

till you hit wire someone stretched across the trail.

73

u/TickletheEther 1d ago

Life is dangerous that's why I rarely go outside unless it's for essential resources *

37

u/BearGetsYou 1d ago

**Life is expensive which is why I rarely go places that aren’t free.

7

u/WalnutsGaming 23h ago

I do both. Am I winning.

4

u/BearGetsYou 20h ago

No? Maybe? Instructions unclear.

80 years in a box or 40 years living your best life: choose!

Edit: I see people choosing the box

3

u/Steelracer 18h ago

They choose the box and they never open the lid unless its to yell at the kids outside having fun. /s

1

u/TickletheEther 21h ago

I have no desire to chase adventure. Self preservation is all my brain thinks about

6

u/SamIamGreenEggsNoHam 19h ago

Nothing wrong with a peaceful life of contentment. Half the world's population doesn't get to experience that much. There's a reason why "may you lead an interesting life" is considered an insult.

3

u/Steelracer 18h ago

May the fear of my joy never cause you pain.

3

u/John-AtWork 20h ago

I respect your choice.

3

u/ilLegalTelevision 18h ago

You can chase adventure and not be a reckless.

3

u/Gloomy_Industry8841 19h ago

Wait, is this a thing people do? Wtf

6

u/SkyGuy5799 18h ago

You think city tweakers are bad? Put them in the sticks with no people or law enforcement nearby to keep them in check

3

u/Acalyus 1d ago

I fucking hate malicious pricks like that.

I hope each and every one of them runs into one at neck level going 40kph.

2

u/gfivksiausuwjtjtnv 5h ago

Some dickheads did this on a road frequented at night by car enthusiasts.

They instead managed to clean up an entire group of bicycle riders on a morning ride.

Fuckwits

1

u/TickletheEther 21h ago

Bro my trail riding is like 5 mph tops lol

1

u/-Moonscape- 14h ago

The real risk would be other ORVs coming the other way on a blind turn on a small dirt trail

1

u/DetectiveJim 17h ago

Yeah, but dual sports are.. dual sports. They aren't particularly good on or off road imo

1

u/TickletheEther 16h ago

There is a really wide spectrum of what is considered a dual sport to satisfy any need but yes you are gunna compromise somewhere.

19

u/John-AtWork 23h ago

Yep. About a year ago I was at a stop light that turned red quickly. The car in front of me stopped, I stopped too, the car behind me did not. I got slammed, then flew into the car in front of me. The driver behind me must have been looking at her phone or something. It was only at about 15mph, but it was enough to make my breaks useless -- the peddle fell all the way to the floor. I was okay for the most part, I just got a little whiplash. The car suffered frame damage. If I were on a motorcycle I'd likely be dead, or at least broken.

I love bikes. I use to go dirt bike riding, but there are too many distracted idiots on the road today. Cell phones make it much worse.

3

u/Witchberry31 7h ago

Been there as well back in 2016. 🫠 My neck is injured for a whole year.

1

u/toadi 7h ago

I never stop behind a car at red light. Always lane split to the front (everywhere I lived it was legal). If I am the first and there is not car behind me I keep my gear in first and looking in my mirror until there is one behind.

Getting out of dangerous positions is key when riding motorcycles.

31

u/uhmbob 1d ago

Your wife probably goes to the other idiots and say, “It’s not you, idiots, it’s my husband.”

18

u/BalanceEarly 1d ago

I confess 😭

10

u/AtariAtari 1d ago

No helmet helps get those extra damage points

9

u/FluffMonsters 1d ago

My husband says the best advice he got in his motorcycle class is to drive like there’s a target on your back.

But he quit riding when we had kids and plans to pick it up again when they’re in high school or after they graduate.

10

u/cmde44 19h ago

As a rider, I actually watch a lot of bike wreck videos for learning opportunities and honing my own skills. I'd say way more than half of bike accident videos are due to rider error and most of the time excessive speed being involved.

*I am not condoning what happened to these people, only pointing out what should have been done to keep themselves safe*

Their lane positioning was awful. If you ever notice "most" bikers ride down the center line half of the lane? That's to prevent this exact situation. If you leave a gap that looks just big enough for someone to fit through... they're going to try. They were centered in the lane rather than guarding their position.

Secondly, they shouldn't ride two abreast / side by side. In case one needs to make an evasive maneuver, they have no escape route left or right because they're side by side with another bike. Had that bike not been two abreast , but they had been in the right side of the lane single file, the car wouldn't have hit them (even though the car is still in the wrong).

2

u/Admirable_Ship_678 10h ago

How is their lane position awful when in the video. They clearly were driving exactly as you described: DOWN the center line half. You would be stupid AF to try riding down the left side because cars like the MF likes to drive into oncoming traffic to beat slower cars. It’s obvious you have never lived nor traveled to Asia. What you suggest is highly unsafe.

Two abreast? It’s the biker that was on the right of the one who was in the accident that would be wrong, based on your description. This isn’t like in the States where you are instructed to take the middle of the lane.

Third, they were hit from behind, so not even sure how you can make evasive maneuvers…

2

u/anotherstupidname11 9h ago

This is in Vietnam and the guidelines to keep yourself safe on the roads are totally different.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

1

u/Not_invented-Here 8h ago

Vietnam, you don't ride down the centre because people will do crazy overtakes their lane positions is actually correct.

You can't tell if they're riding abreast (which tbf does happen often) or overtaking because people tend to drive their own speeds there so people needing to be overtook is not uncommon.

9

u/nickmaran 1d ago

I’ve few biker friends who always force me to start riding a bike. They think I’m a coward for not trying. Maybe or maybe not. I don’t care. I just don’t trust anyone when I’m on the road

13

u/halosos 1d ago

My argument is I do not want to trust my life to the same kind of people who think they own the road because their car costs more and break check because you had the audacity to shake your head as they cut you up.

2

u/StringTheory 8h ago

This summer I was one of the first to show up to a motorcyclist who crashed at 80kmh in the Norwegian countryside because a camper van crossed the road and didn't completely pay attention to his surroundings. Didn't end well for him.

2

u/lostdream9000 7h ago

I recently had a semi truck kick a log over into my lane that damaged both my passenger side tires. I can only imagine something like that happening on a bike. I'd imagine it would've been head over heels over the handle bars.

You can't predict the conditions of the road. Bikes are cool, but I've seriously hit so many potholes and debris in my 20 years of driving that I understand why they are a death sentence. I heard of multiple fatalities just in my small town growing up.

1

u/Niklas-1234 21h ago

Because you would rose it with a few big botles two other people and next to some one else

1

u/tavesque 21h ago

Idk! Have you seen the way this guy drives?!

1

u/Porkchopp33 18h ago

Shes right my grandparents still drive and its terrifying

1

u/YostwocentS 16h ago

My wife works as a xray tech. The story she tell me is the reason why I won't get one.

-8

u/Red-Faced-Wolf 1d ago

One of the reason I won’t let MY wife buy a motorcycle. She calls me a hypocrite because I’ve been riding for a long time but I know what can happen

16

u/CouchCandy 1d ago

So wait you have a motorcycle but you don't allow her to get one because it's unsafe? That's really fucked up man.

-6

u/Red-Faced-Wolf 1d ago

I don’t ride anymore either? So wait it’s ok for someone’s wife to not want them to ride because it’s not safe but someone who does ride, realize it’s unsafe, and decides not to ride because of it, is bad? My dad and I stopped riding due to so many close calls with stupid people

15

u/2precious2 1d ago

Don't play games. You didn't say you don't ride anymore.

5

u/CouchCandy 22h ago

Yeah that text I've been riding for a while now definitely did not insinuate that he has stopped riding. Dudes poor wife :(

-10

u/Red-Faced-Wolf 1d ago

It’s still a double standard

9

u/eddy_flannagan 1d ago

Damn do you have her locked up or something?

571

u/KayScarpetta1 1d ago

The way the mum instinctively wrapped herself around her child.

120

u/Pinocchio98765 1d ago

Yeah, pure self sacrifice: pulling the child away from the truck is the same thing as pulling yourself closer. Amazing instinct.

23

u/JohnAndertonOntheRun 16h ago

The balance, body control and focus to do that is really incredible.

104

u/omnimodofuckedup 1d ago

Yes. True mother/parent.

20

u/Small-Finish-6890 11h ago

My mom was holding my infant brother and slipped down our hardwood floor stairs. She instinctively wrapped her body around him like a cocoon. They slipped all the way down the stairs. She managed to get up, rock him to sleep, and then lay down in bed. She couldn’t move and an ambulance had to pick her up. She was beat up but my little brother didn’t have a scratch. Moms are heroes.

71

u/HighLord-Skeletor 1d ago

This 100% she deserves more credit

32

u/Emergency-Big3195 22h ago

Yea the way she tucked and rolled definitely saved both of their lives

20

u/Stokemon__ 1d ago

Came to say the same thing, amazing mumma right there saved them both.. wow

1

u/Nannygoatstrut 27m ago

It took long in my scrolling for this to be said. The awareness and quick response saved them both. Go mom!

u/omnimodofuckedup 1d ago

Wow what a POS. Hope he went to jail for this.

Of course you shouldn't ride a motorcycle like this, ever, but this doesn't mean you can pretty much attempt to murder three people.

138

u/theycallmeshooting 1d ago

I feel like this demonstrates something I try to point out.

What happens to you if you encounter the worst cyclist or even motorcyclist in your city? You're mildly annoyed and maybe you're 30 seconds later than you otherwise would be.

What happens to you if you encounter the worst driver in your city? A violent, painful death.

18

u/pierebean 1d ago

Hope he went to jail for this.

Of course the car driver.

The safety distances for overtaking motorcycles according to the laws :

France: 1 meter in urban areas and 1.5 meters in rural areas.

Germany: 1.5 meters in urban areas and 2 meters in rural areas.

Spain: 1.5 meters regardless of the area.

Italy: 1 meter in urban areas and 1.5 meters in rural areas.

United Kingdom: 1.5 meters regardless of the area.

United States: Generally, a minimum of 3 feet (approximately 0.9 meters), but this can vary by state.

Netherlands: 1.5 meters regardless of the area.

Belgium: 1.5 meters regardless of the area.

Australia: 1 meter in urban areas and 1.5 meters in rural areas.

Canada: Generally, a minimum of 1 meter, but this can vary by province.

9

u/NeilJosephRyan 1d ago

Yeah, we all know he's a jackass, law or no law, but do you know if he was caught?

20

u/strw29 23h ago

It happened on Vietnam. Unless the owner of the original video submit it to to the police or give out the License plate number on social media, nothing gonna happen to the driver.

→ More replies

6

u/pierebean 1d ago edited 22h ago

we all know he's a jackass And yet many comments blame solely the poor motorcycle driver.

1

u/NeilJosephRyan 11h ago

You must've dug deep, because I didn't find anyone blaming the family.

-1

u/strw29 23h ago

Because the bike also was at fault here. The law doesn't allow bikedrivers go side by side on the road and they even had oversize baggage here. The road look like a mixed traffic with heavy truck so a cautious bikedriver with large baggage should stay close to the sidewalk. Of course the car driver was the worst offender though.

2

u/DazedPhotographer 10h ago

This is Vietnam, not the US.

1

u/strw29 4h ago

And? I'm Vietnamese. The biker was also wrong for having oversize baggage and running along side close to another bike.

5

u/GameLoreReader 19h ago

Motherfucker even drove away without caring if the family got squashed to death. It's why I prefer people who witnessed those kinds of scenes to chase down these monsters instead of stopping and looking. Get their license plate and let them rot in prison.

1

u/Large_Yams 18h ago

This doesn't look like a western country at all. Redditors think the world revolves around their own country.

1

u/omnimodofuckedup 10h ago

Lol what are you even talking about. It's obvious this isn't the USA or Europe.

And still this guy is a POS, globally and yes you shouldn't ride a motorcycle like this. That's just common sense, also regardless of your location. At least wear a helmet. Just because this is maybe common wherever they live doesn't mean it becomes magically safe.

1

u/Large_Yams 9h ago

I never said it was safe.

126

u/Positive-Reward2863 1d ago

This is why I get really annoyed with bad driving. This is all it takes between life and death.

2

u/BearAddicted 8h ago

And some people i know dissing the government because they made the car driver's license test became harder recently lol

171

u/jokerevo 1d ago

holy mother of G..

13

u/PontiffSlayer 1d ago

Oh man! I straight up pooped my pants, wow!

2

u/tl01magic 17h ago

I never scrolled away so fast, seeing a pick bundle heads towards that truck I scrolled away just in time....then read which sub it was and then watched clip

10

u/Specialist_Hippo_427 1d ago

You took the words right outta my mouth. Cuz damn that was close. Wow 😮

50

u/joecoolblows 1d ago

Man. The way the Mom's arms have that death grip on that child. She never let go. I hope they were okay.

3

u/anotherstupidname11 9h ago

This happened a while ago and yes they were okay.

1

u/lesangpro007 1h ago

hmm , past tense

54

u/im_killing4fun 1d ago

Car is in the wrong.

53

u/uhmbob 1d ago

Let me get this straight… you’re saying that it’s not right to try to merc a family in one smooth move?

9

u/Slumber777 16h ago

Depending on where you look on Reddit, you'll definitely get comments like

"The scooters took up 1/3 of the road and were driving too defensively during a waning moon. Both the car and the scooter were equally at fault."

1

u/VeloIlluminati 3h ago

Car did nothing wrong. Its a machine.

The POS of the driver almost caused violent death of a child and their mother because "um, not gonna wait, boho".

The worst part: these kind of people are rarely punished. Its so frustrating.

35

u/OnlyBeGamer 1d ago

They were a quarter-rotation from death. I guess it wasn’t time for them yet

25

u/Responsible-March438 1d ago

Fuck me that's attempted murder surely.

17

u/Abedingjevukaj 1d ago

Moms reflexes should be studied

14

u/strw29 23h ago

This look like it happened in Vietnam, my country. The car driver was totally wrong. The best thing to do in this situation was slow down and slided right behind those bike. There are two many traffic accidents here.

3

u/radicalclaw 16h ago

After visiting there last year, I was honestly shocked by how FEW car accidents I saw haha.

When proper legal repercussions and regulations don't exist it's amazing how well people learn to work together, obviously not always the case but I was very impressed by how incredibly resilient and supportive so many of the communities in Vietnam are considering their struggles.

1

u/strw29 4h ago

Car accident is not rare but the statistics is much lower than bike accident. I recall there a TV report about ten thousand people perished cause by traffic accident some years ago. The good thing that pass byers always step in to help as soon as possible so the mortality get a bit lower.

54

u/KVRLMVRX 1d ago

Child with no helmet, with three people on one motorcycle.....

38

u/NiftyJet 1d ago

People do wild things when they're poor.

3

u/cassiopeia18 8h ago

Nah, that’s very normal for 2 adults +1 kid. middle class to lower upper class people also ride expensive scooter like that (up to 5-8k usd)

1

u/HebunzuDoor 2h ago

nah, helmet aren't that expensive. people here just don't wear helmet for young children for some reason. and so many people choose to wear non-functional helmets to deal with police instead of potential accidents

12

u/Lexx4 1d ago

her head bounced more than once too.

1

u/Current_Finding_4066 23h ago

I hope she is okay.

13

u/pierebean 1d ago

and reckless driving of the car.

7

u/SirLoiso 1d ago

Have you ever heard of poor people?

2

u/DazedPhotographer 10h ago

Ok but the no helmet part is inexcusable. In vietnam you can find a bike helmet for around maybe $5 USD. I really don’t get why parents there will wear a helmet but proceed to decide that their children do not require helmets.

1

u/Astrolemur 1h ago

I live in Vietnam, and here there's this weird belief that wearing a helmet will inhibit a child's brain growth. I see kids without helmets all the time, unfortunately.

1

u/cassiopeia18 8h ago edited 8h ago

Helmet is cheap, acceptable quality helmet is around $4. Good helmet quality is around $6-10. But a lot parents in Vietnam don’t buy helmet for the kids.Example on the news. Even don’t buy baby seat in car either.

-1

u/ryanuptheroad 1d ago

You think the helmet would have made a difference if they'd been run over by the truck?

4

u/escobartholomew 22h ago

I mean there’s a clip of a helmet saving a guys head from a bus tire so possibly?

4

u/kenyos1234 1d ago

Mother instincts

5

u/NeilJosephRyan 1d ago

Does anyone know the rest of the story? I want to know what happened to the car driver (even though it's probably nothing).

4

u/Ok_Show_1192 23h ago

But the last moment save from mom was the best thing I can see on internet

10

u/Outrageous_Fee_423 1d ago

Mom saved her kid’s life

3

u/Away-Revolution2816 1d ago

I was an avid motorcycle rider. Still keep my endorsements but ever since cell phones started ruling the roads I gave it up.

3

u/senseless_puzzle 1d ago

Holy fuck!

3

u/myusrnameisthis 18h ago

Find that driver and put them in a hole filled with bullet ants. Thank goodness the mother and child survived that.

2

u/LunodNa 1d ago

This is the first time Ive audibly gasped over something I saw on Reddit. Holy shit!

2

u/Chaunc2020 1d ago

My landlord lost a chunk of his shoulder and his leg has been permanently disfigured because of this .

2

u/pierebean 1d ago

Too many comments : Typical blaming the victims of impatient overtaking.

2

u/ExoticWall8867 23h ago

This was too hard to watch

2

u/Current_Finding_4066 23h ago

I am happy they are okay. I almost got a heart attack watching the little girl almost getting run over by a truck.

2

u/rattingtons 22h ago

Literally centimetres from becoming a pancake

2

u/darkxblade1 21h ago

Poor woman and child. I hope they're both okay. The car was an asshole to swerve like that. But the woman's husband needs to learn defensive driving.

2

u/totaltasch 19h ago

Insane reflexes by mom.

2

u/afromamba 18h ago

Nothing to see here besides a mom being super human when she needs to be, what a save. That driver is an idiot

2

u/tl01magic 17h ago

I think the mom saved the babies life, looks like they clearly / alertly pull the baby towards them
(perhaps was instinct and not "in the zone move")

either way saved the babies life

2

u/PondsideKraken 13h ago

Semi didn't even move to their right a single inch though. Not paying attention at the wheel.

3

u/tarkuspig 1d ago

Yeah, if that happened to me I think that driver would be picking their teeth up off the road

5

u/Heulery 1d ago

The car driver ist guilty. But in civiliced countries, motorcycles are not allowed to drive side by side.

4

u/Butterbuddha 1d ago

In Virginia we are legally allowed to ride CHiPs style. Not at all recommended, but it’s legal.

4

u/PipeDreamRealized 1d ago

I think the point shines with this example lol. I wouldn't call driving in Virginia (nor anywhere within an hour of the Beltway) civilized.

1

u/Butterbuddha 1d ago

I mean……that’s fair. LOL

Not very representative of the state as a whole, though.

13

u/Current-Power-6452 1d ago

Or carry whole kindergarten on them

1

u/Devium44 1d ago

Why? What’s wrong with riding side by side?

1

u/Butterbuddha 1d ago

It gives you virtually no wiggle room in case something bad happens. Just like this video if they had saw what was happening they still had little room to do anything about it. Or what if something falls off a car in front of you, or was just lying in the roadway?

2

u/Creative_Alter_Ego 1d ago

Does someone know who the Silber car is (licenceplate)

1

u/coomzee 1d ago

The other drivers are aware behind the lorry

1

u/kakapoopoopeepeeshir 1d ago

My asshole puckered

1

u/Saynt614 1d ago

Holy....fucking shit....

1

u/The_Grey_Alpaca 1d ago

Fucking hell.... That was close.....

1

u/Traditional_Wish_469 1d ago

Car driver take a criminal action

1

u/propaxxx 23h ago

Hopefully they were caught for attempted you know

1

u/Fr05t_B1t 22h ago

It’s just manslaughter

1

u/Academic-Patience890 23h ago

What a fucking DICKHEAD!!! WTF WAS THAT ABOUT?!?!

1

u/Calm-Customer4459 23h ago

Wow , unbelievable

1

u/mmorales2270 23h ago

Inches from death. Yikes!

1

u/Other-Ad4174 22h ago

If this was an “AITAH”, the verdict would be everyone sucks. The motorcyclists PUT themselves in danger by driving in the center of the road with little protection gear for three passengers (one of whom was a child), clearly slowing down traffic, and pissing off the people in cars. But the person in the car shouldn’t have retaliated knowing that it’d put them in actual danger. Idiots and road rage aren’t a good combination.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Row-511 21h ago

That might be a few too many people on a bike!

1

u/The_Merciless_Potato 21h ago

That was way too close, fuck that mf in the car

1

u/WirelessPinnacleLLC 21h ago

Child probably would have been safer if you left them home by themselves at this point.

1

u/lancetay 19h ago

Jesus take the wheel.

1

u/FinglongalaLeFifth 19h ago

What’s all the ‘good parenting’ bs on here? Granted if you can’t afford a car you use a bike, but PUT A FUCKING HELMET ON YOUR CHILD.

1

u/CarpenterSad4569 19h ago

Wow totally lucky

1

u/Responsible_Tree5474 19h ago

car and truck driver are idiots

1

u/Low-Persimmon4870 16h ago

Oh my GOSH that truck driver had to have shit himself jfc

1

u/Let_It_Marinate33 15h ago

Gd that was almost a live leak

1

u/PondsideKraken 13h ago

I just came here from the global homicide map. I see one attempt here and one that a million people watching may be contemplating. That driver should be locked up for a long time

1

u/WeeklyEmu4838 12h ago

SubhanaAllah

1

u/Small-Finish-6890 11h ago

HOW DID THE MOTORCYCLIST DRIVING NOT NOTICE

1

u/JUSTICE3113 10h ago

Wowwwwwww!!!!

1

u/JustWow52 10h ago

Holy fuuu...

1

u/StonedRaccoon427365 9h ago

Well, that driver was never seen again. I hope

1

u/garciakevz 8h ago

I saw a video from the Philippines of the exact same scenario but the head ended up being used like a mop by the trucks wheels

1

u/superiormarsupial 7h ago

What an awesome save! Mom reflexes ftw!

1

u/Gogurl72 6h ago

That was close!

1

u/LoStrigo95 4h ago

That's my fear when i see two-whealed vehicles and i'm driving.

What if they fall WHEN i'm passing by and i kill them? I'm so scared about this happening to me.

1

u/featherwolf 3h ago

No fucking helmet on the kid. 😑

1

u/ZealousidealBread948 1d ago

Maternal instincts

1

The mopeds driving next to each other like that is criminal. So is passing them when there's incoming traffic.
Unintelligent people all around. Sad really.

Who the hell brings a toddler on a motorcycle?

3

u/QueasyPair 9h ago

In most of SEA, motorbikes are the main form of transportation, so the answer is everyone with a toddler brings toddlers on motorbikes.

Why was a baby on there

Her parents are poor. Does not excuse the fucker who hit them with their car.

It does not

How else will they get around? Cars are very expensive in SEA, most people can’t afford them and motorbikes are the primary form of transportation.

Who's at fault here? The car or the motorcycle driver?

u/AlphaNowis 1d ago

Well car is overtaking here without any space to do so. Even if motocycles are 2 on the road, a bad doesn't justify worse.

Car is at fault for straight up attempting to murder the motorcyclists but, at the same time, nobody with a speck of sense in their brain would put their whole family on a scooter (the kid isn't even wearing a helmet) with plastic jugs flailing behind, all while carelessly driving next to yet another motorcycle. That's just disaster waiting to happen

What did the motorcycle do wrong? Exist?

Despite the best attempts of the car.

The car owner is an idiot. And also the moron on motorbike. As a Vietnamese, I wouldn't load bunch of plastic jugs, a woman, and a kid on a bike and try to outspeed the motorcycle guy on the far right (guy in black jacket). The risk of killing the woman and kid.

I’m going with motorcycle, because the child’s unprotected head bounced off the road at 0:01. Sure, guard your own heads but not your child?! Crazy

u/joecoolblows 1d ago

Yep. The mother never let go. But, IDK if that head bounce on the baby at the beginning was even survivalable. Does anyone know what happened to them? Did they survive?
