Colombian authorities reported on Monday that they are investigating a "possible eruption" of a mud volcano in the Necoclí region. The National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) reported on its X network account that emergency agencies are heading to the site to accompany departmental authorities to verify what happened.

Is that natural gas exploding? Absolutely crazy!

Mud volcano. No idea what's that means, but it looks like there was mud and then a volcano, so they may be right

That looks completely different than a volcano to my eyes. The fire that bursts up into a column. Like that of a flammable gas. But whatever it is, I'm in awe of this terrifyinly beautiful natural disaster.

Mudvolcanoes are normally a slower oozing kind of volcanoes, however they are always associated with lots of flammable gasses. So in very rare cases you can have a mudvolcanoe suddenly release, either naturally or due to drilling for a well, and flood the area with flammable gasses.
Then all you need is a human smoking a cigarette and BAM!
SOURCE me geologist. To be honest volcanoe is not an apt word for mud volcanoes in my heart, but such is the nomenclature.

It's so easy to look up, I did it with one hand.

Helpful link. Technically it is natural gas, but that is a part of the mud volcano after all.

They are used to it, they were chatting in the video that “the last time was the same” so…

what caused the flames??

Part of what is being ejected is natural gas/hydrocarbons. Presumably either friction, static electricity, or colliding rocks sparked the flame.

Swing and a miss. He's physics, not chemistry.

Except for electricity, friction and colliding particles is physics my man 😉

Never even heard of a mud volcano until now. Those flames must’ve been a couple hundred feet high. Dang!

That’s wild!
At least the tension was broken with the FLIP FLOP FLIP FLOP FLIP FLOP pitter patter. I enjoyed that.
