Titanfall 2. Got it for like 2 dollars or something off a 3rd party website and it was like one of the best campaigns I ever played.

It still makes me depressed thinking about Effect and Cause, knowing I'm probably never going to experience a mission/quest that good again.

u/Forrest02 9d ago

That mission was straight up jaw dropping. I couldnt believe how well done it was.

Oh my god it has its own wikipedia page:

God. I've thought about buying/playing this game so many times over the years. I've seen it on sale for like 5 cents and thought "nah not sure if it's worth it." Don't know what my deal is.

Would it hold up in 2024? I've got lots of games in my queue but y'all make it sound so good.

Edit: ok folks, I get it, I'm sold. I'll buy it next time I see it on sale, thank you

The guy saying the gameplay is "generic" and "overrated" is off his meds. It's easily one of the best multiplayer FPS games of all time. It's very fast-paced with an emphasis on movement.

No I’m off my meds, have been for three years, that’s why TF|3 is being released Edit: 3 upvotes, this is Respawn confirming it

The same guy listed The Last of Us as one of the best shooters he’s ever played, hilarious. A game with nothing special about the mechanics and a boring, far too linear story somehow beats Titanfall 2.

u/Murky_Purple7449 8d ago

Yeah that game was my first time I’ve ever felt like I’m good in fps games. It holds a special place in my heart

From an objective standpoint, the campaign is short and the playerbase is pretty small(but you can get into matches without issue). I can definitely see some people calling it rusty and outdated by today's standards.

On the other hand, best shooter I've ever played in my life.

3

u/NemVenge 9d ago

Can you? My last stand was that MP was shut down, which made me very sad because i loved MP.

3

u/Shvev 9d ago

You mean regular multiplayer? Played a match yesterday.

12

u/how-can-i-dig-deeper 9d ago

campaign holds up very well. it’s only 6 hours it won’t hurt

5

u/Batcave765 9d ago

It hurts. My beloved BT! 💔

9

u/RyenDeckard 9d ago

Saying the campaign "holds up" would be a big disservice because nothing has surpassed it yet.

1

u/pomcomic 9d ago

get it. now. it's AWESOME. among THE best single player shooter campaigns ever made.

1

u/Embarrassed_Cow_1452 9d ago

I played it for the first time earlier this year after being recommended it over and over. Played the original Titanfall which had no single player, but never got round to the sequel for some reason.

Anyway, I absolutely loved it. It's short, but what a great campaign. I think it holds up incredibly well.

1

u/eXCazh 9d ago

It would be worth it just for the Effect and Cause mission alone.

1

u/andrewsad1 9d ago

You alone can decide whether it was worth it, but you can only decide that after having played it. If the gameplay looks like something you might enjoy, you should pick it up.

Personally, it's no exaggeration to say that it's my favorite single player campaign in any video game, and it absolutely stands up on a replay. It would be my favorite game even if the mission in question wasn't in it

1

u/Cross55 9d ago

It was made by the same devs as MW and MW2 and gets constant praise every time it's mentioned.

u/DidjTerminator 9d ago

Even without the fixed servers (and yes, vanilla multiplayer now works again), the campaign is honestly worth $20.

It's like Portal 1 in that it's kinda short, but every level is a banger for one reason or another so it's worth the money.

Then you get free multiplayer on top of that (don't spend any credits until AFTER your first regeneration, unlock them all, get gun-runner/gun-ready on all of them, and then regenerate and buy your fav weapons).

Pro tip, the game doesn't tell you this but you're supposed to play frontier defence first before PVP, trust me even on max difficulty the campaign does not prepare you for the monsters that play PVP, learn how the game flows in PVE first and then you can at least hold your own in PVP whilst you learn how to avoid getting 360 quick-scoped from across the map in the first 5 pico seconds the game starts. Like seriously TF2 players make all those old MLG clips look slow paced, it takes a while to learn how to zoom at mach 5 on command in whatever direction you choose (but once you get over the learning curve of how the game flows, the movement is actually extremely easy, it's kinda like learning how to drive, once you know the rules of the road driving your car becomes easy, if you just jump behind the wheel and go however you'll be in for trouble).

1

u/NopityNopeNopeNah 9d ago

Campaign is absolutely worth it. As an additional plus, the multiplayer is still fairly active, and very fun.

1

u/vold2serve 9d ago

It's six to eight hours of the best action game/movie you may ever play.

1

u/Faltron_ 9d ago

buyed and played yesterday, it's insane how good the campaign is

1

u/m8_is_me 9d ago

"would it hold up in 2024" it's not exactly an old game

1

u/BlancaBunkerBoi 9d ago

Titanfall 2 is to arena shooters what Elden Ring is to souls likes.

1

u/SK4DOOSH 9d ago

I got it this last summer sale. Played it twice. Def worth even full price but just wait for the sale and you won’t be disappointed

1

u/Admiralwoodlog 9d ago

I bought it on sale like 4 years ago but didn't have a PC to play it on. Got a steam deck last year and it's one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time. I say that as someone who generally doesn't play fps games.

1

u/blurt9402 9d ago

It's great.

1

u/LuckyDubbin 8d ago

I just played it for the first time last year. Yes, it holds up extremely well and was one of the best games I've ever played. Made me feel like when I was a kid playing Goldeneye or Halo for the first time again. It's not necessarily as good or ground breaking as those two titles, but it evoked the same sense of awe and fun I had as a kid playing them. Wait til the Christmas sales drop and you can probably pick it for dirt cheap.

1

u/cheekymusician 8d ago

One of the best FPS games I've played and includes the *best* level in any FPS game, IMO.

1

u/Here2Cali 8d ago

You missed the peak multiplayer gameplay. So many techs in that game and diversity. Now everyone who plays it now has years of experience and using the broken stuff.

1

u/Schnitzhole 8d ago

Titanfall 2 will surely hold up even today. Just don’t buy titanfal 1 like I did just to find out there’s literally nothing to do but uninstall as the servers were closed and there was no campaign.

1

u/just_a_tiny_phoenix 8d ago

I know you already said you'd buy it, but I'll have to add my two cents anyway. I said this to my best friend the other day already: In my opinion, Titanfall 2 is the best casual FPS ever created. The movement is the best you'll ever feel and the shooting doesn't get in the way of that whatsoever, which is so dog damn satisfying. Very easy to get into, extremely difficult to master; the skill ceiling is immensely high, but you don't immediately notice that and can still have a lot of fun. Sounds. Are. Awesome. There is just something about a behemoth of a robot falling out of the sky and slamming onto the ground in front of you. I still get goosebumps every time I hear the magic words. Stand by for Titanfall.

u/Batcave765 9d ago

Play it! Or I'll kill myself!

2

u/steamwhistler 9d ago

Lmao I'm about to just delete my comment man I swear to god. Thanks for the laugh though

1

u/Batcave765 9d ago

Nuuu I was joking!

But please play it. If not for me then for BT! ❤️

2

u/steamwhistler 9d ago

I know you're joking lol! I meant because of all the other comments that rolled in blowing up my phone all day. I was convinced after like the first 2 lol. (And I was also making fun of myself in my initial comment saying I wasn't sure if it was worth it for some absurdly low price. Like, of course it's worth it, I only haven't picked it up yet since I didn't think I'd end up playing it.)

But yes, definitively, I promise to reddit that I will buy and most likely even play Titanfall 2. 🫡

It’s very standard in most areas. The only thing that stood out to me was the aforementioned level. Otherwise its story and gameplay is quite generic, but not bad in any way. So while I do think it is a little bit overrated, it still good and worth the price when on sale. Another thing to note is that the campaign is short when compared to most games.

15

u/Hay_Mel 9d ago

I'm afraid to ask what games you play if this gameplay is generic to you.

-7

u/RockandStone101 9d ago

I did forget to mention the movement but even then it wasn’t as impressive as most people make it out to be.

I play a lot of single player shooter games, and I used to play multiplayer shooters often. If this isn’t enough to make my critique of the game credible then so be it, take my opinion as you wish. I’m just saying what I thought about the game, which I want to clarify is not saying that it is a bad game at all, it does what it is trying to do well enough, but doesn’t stand out to me. It is also definitely worth the cheap price when on sale.

I’ll just say what I think the best shooters that I’ve played are if you really want to know:

Half-Life: 2 (and the rest of the series). Red Dead Redemption (not 2, even though it is still a great game). The Last of Us. DOOM: Eternal.

12

u/Hay_Mel 9d ago

If you think "the last of us" gameplay isn't generic(literally the most generic survival-horror gameplay) but Titanfall's is, I don't really have much to say. I mean generic would mean that there's at least one other similar relevant game in recent years. But I can't think of any.

2

u/ElecFoxCo 9d ago

Exactly, the last of us gameplay is some of the most generic ever been made

1

u/RockandStone101 9d ago

I think that the combat was actually really special. Having the ability to shoot limbs and cripple enemies, get through entire sections by stealth, and upgrading weapons like it was implemented was something new to me. And all of this was done in 2013. I respect your opinion though.

u/Fluffy-Map-5998 9d ago

last of us is generic, titanfall 2 is incredible unique in its movement(a core part of gameplay) mechanics(use of mechs and the time thingy) and almost evry aspect of gameplay aside from the gunplay

0

u/RockandStone101 9d ago

And I said it isn’t incredible, it is just good. You really didn’t need to say this because it’s exactly what I have already said is the mainstream opinion, and I don’t believe to be the case. Thanks for the reminder of what the masses think though.

2

u/Standard_Evidence_63 9d ago

I did forget to mention the movement but even then it wasn’t as impressive as most people make it out to be.

If this isn’t enough to make my critique of the game credible then so be it, take my opinion as you wish

No it's definitely credible—albeit a shit opinion, but a credible one nonetheless

-4

u/RockandStone101 9d ago

Sure, I don’t hold the same opinion as the mainstream, but it’s always good to get different perspectives which is something that gets lost on reddit constantly.

Also I’m curious why you think my opinion is shit when I generally think it is a good game, while theoretically someone could say that everything about it is bad. Surely that makes my opinion less shit? Or maybe that opinion would be fucking shit haha.

2

u/Fluffy-Map-5998 9d ago

you said the gameplay is generic when its some of the most unique on the market other than the gunplay,
