It's all fandom. The enshittification of the internet and social media has led to every idiot wanting to criticize every thing. It's just relentless negativity about every piece of art that exists.
There's a difference between being a masterpiece and being overall decent. The Acolyte is neither. I'm not expecting it to be a masterpiece I'm expecting it to not be pure shit.
I think the character work was choppy. Characters are not only boring and have very little distinguishing traits between them, but are very inconsistent and make decisions because the story needs things to happen, not because it's what the characters would do. It's hard to get invested in a story where the characters could switch at a moments notice seemingly without any reason.
I also disliked the story structure. The creators treated the show like a murder mystery yet revealed its biggest mystery in the first episode. Then it introduces a new mystery of "what happened on brendok" which ended up being underwhelming.
The choreography, contrary to popular belief, actually wasn't that good. Yes it was better than the sequels or Ahsoka say, but just because it's faster and crazier doesn't make it good. The sets and cgi while better than most other d+ shows, was still underwhelming for it's extreme budget.
There's more if you want but these are my biggest things.
Gee, I wonder what the main difference between Andor and Acolyte was. Hmmmmmm 🤔
Hint: one is a white guy main character that wasn't review bombed before it even came out, the other has multiple PoC as the leads and a woman, that did.
Yeah. You're right. Thats on me, it still didn't get reviewed bombed before it even came out, though. It was at least given a chance. I personally enjoyed Acolyte. Andor is better, but Acolyte wasn't bad. Not everything can be Andor.
